Ethan Allen — Local services in McCandless

After shopping at local stores, we decided to give Ethan Allen a try for our new home. Beverly Rush has been fantastic to work with. She is the only designer to actually come out to our place with ideas, fabrics, wood samples, carpet samples, and tape measure! What is refreshing is that she is not afraid to politely tell you won't work well. She obviously has many years of design experience. My experience at Ethan Allen in Monroeville years back was not so positive as I sensed the sales people would not leave you to shop on your own and would chase you around the store. We need a balance between private shopping and designer ideas which Beverly certainly provides at the McCandless location. Because of U.S. manufacturing costs, many traditional U.S. furniture companies have either moved overseas or closed their doors permanently. This has led to a marked decline in the choice of fine furniture in the U.S. At first I was skeptical of the products Ethan Allen offers which are manufactured in Chinese factories. She assured me that the quality is en par with U.S. furniture manufacturing standards (higher level ones that is). I find this to be true upon close examination of their sample products such as the Ming cabinet. Ethan Allen's products are not at all cheaply made, which is a stereotype of Chinese-manufactured goods. In fact, Ethan Allen uses their own factories which are equivalent to those found domestically. I would not be hesitant to look carefully at their products as they are a cut above the rest with regards to quality and style. For those who have given low reviews of Ethan Allen wood furniture scratching, you have to put the ratings in context. Wood is a naturally soft surface relative to any metal, ceramic, or hard plastic object it might come in contact with. If you run a Hot Wheels car over it, yes, it will likely scratch. We own a Amish-made walnut dining table with Catalized surface. These surfaces are not what they are cracked up to be. With minimal use, they too can show minor surface scratches. We no longer live in the era of Haywood-Wakefield type maple dining sets with very thick surface coatings. So you have to be careful with whatever wood surface you buy nowadays. I’ve purchased furniture from Ethan Allen in the past and have been a satisfied customer. To complete a living room area, I returned to Ethan Allen and for the first time I used the stores free design service. It was amazing. I worked with Tammy K. from the design center. She listened to my needs and concerns and quickly came up with a plan that incorporated my style. She created a 3 D floor plan ensuring a perfect fit for all furniture and art. I work full time and she was very accommodating to my schedule. Tammy is such a warm person with abounding enthusiasm and has a genuine love for what she does. She kept me updated on estimated delivery dates and was always available, either by phone or in the store. Delivery was excellent, on a Saturday. The workers provided white glove service on everything they delivered and set up, even removing their shoes. The room looks great. My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Lauren Sunday both at the store and our home. Not only were we impressed with her demeanor and genuine interest, but her ability to articulate design ideas into our lifestyle was beyond our expectations. We chose materials, styles, colors and textures that would have never been part of our decision-making process without her.

We really felt that she wanted to understand how we lived in our space, what we wanted to achieve, and what we were willing to change (or not change). From that she expertly and politely guided us a design that truly lights-up a space which another designer said was virtually unusable without major construction.

I would not hesitate to both request her help again, and recommend her to my friends. Respectfully, we probably would not have purchased anything from Ethan Allen had we not have spoken with her - she helped us to see our space (and their furniture) in a whole new and dramatically...
