Working out at Cypress Fitness addresses not only strengthening muscles, creating a routine for fitness or building a fitness community but literally has helped me build stronger bones. The most important thing any woman or man can do from a young age is to exercise, eat right and have a positive attitude for better overall health. Daily exercise of biking, swimming, riding a horse and walking has been a part of my life since my 20's. Two years ago my bone scan came back with frightening news. Bone loss had naturally occurred due to aging and I was heading in the direction of "if you fall off, you could break your hip." Osteopenia is one thing, osteoporosis is more severe and one word I do not want in my health records. The rheumatologist and I discussed my numbers and I opted out of taking the prescribe medication for bone replacement. Instead for now in my early 60's I decided to go the strength training route with the trainers at Cypress Fitness. One year ago this month I started first with Alfred focusing on strengthening properly with weights and working on flexibility. Once I felt strong enough I started attended two to three times a week the classes offered at Cypress. These classes focus on strength training using free weights, body weight, ropes and pushing a weighted sled. Proudly with this focus my recent bone scan came back with an improvement of one whole point. While that may not sound like much that one point shifts me back into the level of not losing bone but actually improving. In addition, this month I finished a 47 mile bike ride in the hills of West Virginia. Pushing that sled and working on my hamstrings made the bike ride with Back Roads Century not a chore but enjoyable.
