Not a large space so don't plan on spending all day there, BUT the staff and folks are super friendly and helpful. Definitely get that local mom and pop vibe.
As for the food, I had a vanilla chai latte with almond milk, the lemon bar, the everything bagel, and the apple galette. The latte was solid. The lemon bar was SUPERB. The owner noted that it's not for everyone since it's not as sweet as other lemon bars. Let me tell you - this is the level of sweetness that it should be at. It was the perfect amount of sweet, tart, and a microdose of bitterness. Great combination and highly recommended for folks who enjoy a REAL lemon tasting lemon bar. The apple galette was tasty as well - the only thing I regret is not asking to have it toasted.
The bagel was probably one of the best in the area (although technically they're "imported" from Long Island). Despite going against the owner's instructions (she had my best interests in mind and I could see her wince when I mentioned that I was going to have it the next day), the bagel turned out great the next morning. I kept it in a sealed ziploc overnight so it didn't dry out too much and popped it into the air fryer/toaster in the AM for a light toast. All I did was add some cream cheese and my first bite brought memories of the tristate back all over again. One thing to note is that it's not crazy heavy on the 'Everything' which means that the flavors are there, but the salt is not. This is a good thing if you plan on using salted butter or plan on adding other things like lox - or if you're trying to cut down on salts :)
Overall, a fantastic experience. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick bagel fix. I'll have to try their pastrami or their hot dog next time. The aromas of those while I was there made my mouth water.
To the owners - THANK YOU for letting me hang out there and it was a pleasure...
Read moreI don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many mouthwatering pastries I've had (tarts, quiches, cakes, 10+ types of cupcakes, bread, scones, cookies, keylime pie, toffee pudding, brownies, whoopie pies...nom nom nom!)! I'm impressed by the unique selection of decadent baked goods as the menu is always changing and keeps me on my toes!
My favorite sweet treats: key lime pie, pina colada cupcakes, lemon poppy seed bread, smores brownie, and brookie (brownie + cookie)! The pastries are fresh, soft and moist! Truly a sweet bite!
The only things that I wouldn't recommend and are dry and stale: quiches, focaccia bread, and vanilla, chocolate, and cookie dough cupcakes.
I used to go to the Sweetbites cupcake truck all the time in DC and tried over 25+ different types of cupcakes. Sandra, the owner, used the food truck as a pilot and an experiment lab for her scrumptious desserts! I just wish she put all the care and tender in her cupcakes that she started off with a few years ago into the bakery. As cupcakes were her bread and butter, they are a side piece at the bakery, I would love to see some of those old cupcake flavors (cinnamon bun and fall apple one) make a comeback!
I'm so glad that Sandra opened up this cute cafe in McLean right near me. Sandra is just as sweet as her delicious baked goods and you can really taste the passion!
Tucked inside Inova medical building, Sweetbites is truly a hidden gem and well worth a visit.

Read moreWorst place. First - Ordered a bagel egg sandwich and they microwaved the frozen egg. The only reason I stopped and ate their was because I had done my pregnancy glucose test and my doc told me to eat something right away and recommended to grab from this cafe below the doc office.. As I was eating my sandwich, I was attending a call over the phone. I put the phone on speaker very low volume and was speaking politely on the phone in a corner. The owner walked up and said we don't allow this in the cafe. Turn it off and rudely walked away. I was so shocked and stunned (P.S - I was speaking in another language over the phone). I quietly walked out and called to express how rude it was for them to treat a customer like this and there was a better and polite way to address the situation and I am sure you won’t do this to customers if they were physically in the cafe having a conversation. Immediately she became defensive and started getting loud. I told her if you don’t want people chatting or having conversations maybe you should close the siting area as it is a public area and people are coming for the purpose to eat and chat. To which she screamed at me I paid 357k for this business , don’t come. I am never the one to use the racism word but she has a different rage and anger. I am positive it only bothered her because I was speaking in a...
