What happened to this place? I've been coming here for close to a decade ordering the same thing every time. I always get the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and veg. We moved out of town for about 2 years and recently came back. I was so excited to go to world deli and order my favorite. I called and placed the order. I even got two dinners because I wanted to have an extra to share with my mom. It was just that good! When I got in the car I opened the containers to see the delicacy. The smell instantly hit my face. It smelled sour ...like spoiled chicken. I knew instantly that the meat was not good. The breading looked different as well. The normally Brown delicious breading was light-colored and different. Even the gravy look different. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and not as delicious as they had been for the last 10 years. I was sadly disappointed. The chicken was so inedible I had to bring it back and return both dinners. I am thankful they gave me my money back. I will say that in the past I usually have gone during the day around lunch time. This time it was at dinner time. A young man helped me and he seemed to be the manager type. Not sure if he is new or inherited the business or what not, but I have seen from other reviews that some things are different. It's a shame because this place has a lot of loyal customers and most of those customers want what they've had for years and that's what makes them come back over and over again . Somehow I feel as if the good days here are over with...
Read moreI love it! I came here for the first time in the late '90s. It's so nice to have a local deli still going strong. Today I had the sandwich plate. New Orleanians love quartered deli sandwiches on white bread and today I had the triple decker Club. This sandwich is perfect if you're undecided on lunch. "Should I eat something heavy now or just get something light?" "What can I get besides a salad?" This is the typical worker's quandary. I'd suggest moving past the veal parm sub and muffuletta and try either the turkey with pepper jelly panini or the triple decker club. Eat half and put the rest in the fridge at work for lunch tomorrow. Here's a tip for the out-of-towner: If you're in N.O. on business and stuck in a hotel for a week, you can get home-cooked meals at World to heat in your microwave at the hotel. Try the red beans and rice (Monday special, of course) or the butter beans with rice and a link of sausage on Wednesday. The plates come with a little side of bread and if you add a slice of rum cake, you're all set for an evening of work in the hotel (especially if...
Read moreFor 25 years I've gone to world deli. Sister worked on Shoes Dr and we would meet for lunch. For 25 years I've gotten the same sandwich. A poboy with corn beef and pastrami and provolone cheese plain. Today I went there just as I did 2 weeks ago and ordered my sandwich. The guy taking my order said he was the manager and they don't do that. Well you did 2 weeks ago and that's what I always get. He said well I don't know who does that for you but we don't do that. Ok well I will pass. Never had an issue in 25 years. As a matter of fact the first time I ever went the manager at the time said I should put them on one sandwich since I couldn't decide which one I wanted. I've been eating it like that ever since. I won't be back. It's super simple to put half the amount of each meat on 1 sandwich. I'm in food services myself. I know how super simple it is. Especially since we were there only...
