I am physically disabled and walk with leg braces and crutches. I have a significant amount of pain at baseline, but this week my pain has been much worse, distractingly severe. This morning at work I got online to book a massage at Earthsavers in Metairie. When I arrived I was told that most of the massage rooms are upstairs and the few rooms downstairs are not available. Their first response was âwe can help you up the stairsâ. I said âno. I am not doing that and should not have to do thatâ. Their next response was âyou have to let us know ahead of time to be scheduled downstairsâ. First, nowhere on their website did it say anything about accessibility. How would anyone know this? Second, that means because of my disability I have to call in advance to schedule. Able-bodied individuals have the luxury of booking a same-day massage online, but Iâm not entitled to the same luxury simply because of my disability. Pretty messed up, right? In 2023 I should not have to call and verify accessibility for every business I visit. My disability should not take away my ability to book a same-day massage. I am absolutely disgusted at this business and their lack of accessibility as well as their carelessness towards people with disabilities. I beg yâall to avoid giving your business to this discriminatory establishment. Aside from appalled, Iâm also devastated because I was really looking forward to an ounce of pain relief after a hard week working as a physician in the hospital. I burst into tears the second I got back in my car after walking out of earthsavers. Please boycott this antiquated and inequitable business and instead spend your money at businesses that cater to EVERYONE, regardless of disability. After all, thatâs the law.
Check out the hypocritical saying on the wall in earthsavers. Canât even live up to the dumb wall art.
Aside from appalled it truly saddens me. I feel excluded and like a second class citizen, not able to access the same luxuries as everyone else. 25% of the world is disabled. Disability is the only minority group that any person can become part of at any point in their life. Let's hope none of these people ever have to feel the way I felt today walking out of earthsavers without the massage I so desperately need.
UPDATE: In response to the business ownerâs very scripted response: having ADA compliant rooms is only helpful if I have access to them when I book a same day massage online like everyone else. But thatâs not how it works at your establishment. I would have had to know that I needed to call ahead and schedule in advance in order to have access to these rooms. First how would I know that? But even if I did know that - that is still NOT EQUITABLE TREATMENT. I have every right to be able to book a same day massage online LIKE EVERY ABLE-BODIED CUSTOMER. Thatâs the problem youâre ignoring and failing to acknowledge. I walked out of your business feeling humiliated, worthless, and still in a great deal of pain thanks to yâall, and itâs UNACCEPTABLE. Hope those able-bodied customers enjoyed the...
Read moreI have been here once before where the service fine and the staff was friendly. I enjoyed my massage and planned on returning. I recently called to make an appointment as a surprise for my mother and specifically requested that they do not call or text her and if they needed anything to please call my number as I was going to be with her getting a massage as well. They were aware that this was a birthday surprise from the very beginning. I received a confirmation text this morning and noticed that I had not received one for my mother. I called and inquired about it and the cancellation policy with the storm that is coming in. The lady at the front desk told me that they were just about to call everyone to cancel appointments due to the storm coming in. I explained to her that this was a birthday surprise and asked if they had availability for tonight. The lady put me on hold and transferred me to someone else. I reexplained what was going on and was told they did not have availability. We ended the conversation and I realized my original question of âWas my mother notified?â was not answered. I called back and they said they did call my mother and they apologized for ruining the surprise and said that my mom was not upset or mad. My mom may not have been upset or mad but I am as I specifically asked for her to not be called or texted and was assured that she would not be. Caroline, the lady who I was speaking with the second time, apologized again and we ended the conversation. Then my mother received a second phone call from earthsavers saying that I called to cancel my appointment and when I called, they told me they had called her and ruined the surprise!!! That is not how that happened. I never called to cancel. I called to confirm my appointment after they had called my mother already. I donât appreciate them ruining the surprise and then lying to my mother. All they could say was âWe are sorry.â But I need the ladies to put themselves in my shoes. Sorry does not make up for ruining a surprise when you tried to take every precaution for it not to ruined. Iâm not sure if I will be back yet as I am extremely disappointed...
Read moreThe building is luxurious and smells incredibly fresh. Also, the workers were kind. However, I was displeased with the quality of the service. For one, the pedicurist doing a customer's feet in the chair next to mine began using the polish remover dispenser that my pedicurist was using on my feet. And she "double-dipped" her cotton ball. What this means is that whatever was on that lady's feet (by way of the cotton ball) would have gotten on my feet had I not said something, because my pedicurist did not notice. Next, the color on my toes began bleeding, and the pedicurist left it like that. For my manicure, the color that I selected was substantially different than the color on the brush. On the brush, it was gorgeous, but on my hand, it was several shades lighter. The manicurist had to apply several coats to get the color remotely close. I ended up leaving with a color that I did not like. On top of all of that, the gel polish began peeling after six days. That was a waste of $55. I called to see if anything could be done, and the receptionist told me that I should not expect gel to last very long, that they accept such calls between one and four days afterward, but that she would schedule me to have that particular nail fixed. She emphasized that only that nail could be fixed. I scheduled the appointment but cancelled when on the eighth day three more nails began to peel. I went to another spa, paid $30 less, and left with a color I actually liked. For the record, I get gel nails regularly, have paid far less than $55 and have had them last well into three weeks. I was disappointed with the service, will not be returning, and would not recommend...
