Pros: The stadium seating is nice, most of the theaters have reclining seats and its very comfortable
The food (like the actual food, not snacks or popcorn) is better than most movie theater fare
The sound is typically really good
The screens are all at least decent sized
The place is typically clean enough, considering the foot traffic through the building.
They have special event screenings from time to time, and a lot of those are really good.
Cons: Pricing is super duper high. For a ticket, a large popcorn, and a drink, you’re looking at probably 30+ dollars or more easily depending on what time of day you go.
The way the concessions are set up is attrocious. It takes forever to get any kind of food or snacks. As other customers have mentioned, you have to make at least three to four stops just to get through the concession line. This is a fairly new problem and it has caused me to miss previews almost every time I’ve gone recently. Its not bad enough that they’re ripping me off on the food and drinks, but they also have to convolute the process of getting those things, which should be a fairly fast process.
The main lobby has become kind of cluttered in recent years. There’s a ton of cardboard cutout ads and benches everywhere. When its crowded, it can be actually kind of a pain to navigate.
Overall: If you don’t mind having a relatively expensive day, and dealing with the awful setup they have in the lobby, the viewing experience here is usually rather good. The seats are fairly comfortable, the screens are decent sized, and the sound is very good. And I haven’t had many annoying moviegoer experiences here.
I’d give it a 7/10. The inconveniences here aren’t that big of a deal to me. I just care that I can go there consistently and have a great time seeing a movie. The rest of the stuff that comes before doesn’t matter that much to me when the viewing experience is as good...
Read moreMy wife and I go to this theater a lot.
They recently (last year?) added a full bar. I don't drink, but perhaps that's a good way to get through half of the movies released these days.
Their center concession layout is a little wonky. People kind of wander in and out all over, but they've also put up a short fence that people just have to swing their legs over. Prices are insultingly ridiculous, but that's what we've been trained to expect, right?
They have Coke Freestyle machines, including some close to the rear theaters, which is great. Refills are free, so go crazy, because there's never a line at the restroom. If you refill 4 times, it's almost like the cost of buying a regular soda, but with way more hydration.
The regular theaters are nice. Occasionally there is some noise leakage from the next theater over--this only is annoying when you're watching Wonder next to a Michael Bay movie.
Their IMax theater doesn't allow any of the armrests to be raised. I haven't experience mechanical problems with any of their seats. I don't think they support full in-seat dining, which is nice. I don't want to have other patrons encouraged to eat loudly for 2 hours because they have a table in front of them.
NEGATIVE : They just built a Dolby theater. I've been to one movie here, and will NEVER go back. It costs extra, and you are paying for the chance to lose your hearing, essentially. It was ridiculously loud...everyone in my party of 9 was glad that I happened to have a box of disposable earplugs on me. One person with me actually left the movie hallway through.
In most of the theaters, row C and back are fine. Rows A & B are the only ones that are "too close" in my mind. If you sit in the center you will have a hard time getting out once everyone reclines. Every theater is like that.
Workers here are generally in good spirits...
Read moreMy recent experience at AMC Methuen 20 left me extremely disappointed. The theater had a filthy floor, which appeared to not have been vacuumed all day. It was an unpleasant experience to walk on sticky floors and feel dust on my shoes.
Furthermore, the reclining chairs in the theater were in poor condition. They were worn out, dirty, and some of them even had rips in the fabric. It was uncomfortable to sit on such chairs, and it made me feel like the theater did not value the comfort of its patrons.
To add to the unpleasant experience, the staff attending to customers were rude and unfriendly. I was shocked by the lack of basic courtesy and professionalism. It seemed like they were not interested in their customers and were just doing their job for the sake of it.
The high cost of a ticket at AMC Methuen 20 makes it not worth the money spent. It was disappointing to see how parts of the theater were dirty and poorly maintained, even though they charge a premium price for the movie experience.
The customer service provided by the staff has also declined. It is sad to see how the theater has gone downhill in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and customer service. I felt sorry for the condition in which this theater is, and I hope that the management takes immediate action to improve it.
In conclusion, my experience at AMC Methuen 20 was unpleasant, and I would not recommend it to anyone. The dirty floors, worn-out chairs, rude staff, and high ticket prices make it not worth the money spent. It is high time the management takes corrective measures to improve the condition of the theater and provide a better movie-going experience to...
