This has bothered me for a few weeks since it happened, and I decided to share.
June 28th I went into this location. I had called at least twice about a certain card that I was looking for, and they had one. Due to my work schedule and my health being up and down, my free time is sparse. Today was a day I had free. I had decided I was going to buy this particular card with my tax refund. Had the money in my wallet, had my mind set.
Walk in out of the rain, I notice three people inside behind the counter wearing shirts with the stores logo embroidered on it. Classy. I look around for 5 minutes, getting a lay of the land. Finally, someone asks if they can help me. I told the associate I was there to look at a card I had called about. I find the card in the case. The other two people wearing Louisville Sports Cards shirt are laying on the case with “my” card, not letting me get a good look at it. No offer to move as I am trying to look at the reason I came in. I walk to other case of cards, kind of mad. Finally, one of the guys moves. I take the initiative and pounce. I look at the card, I pull out my phone, take a picture, zoom in on the picture. No one comes up to me. The Cincinnati Reds are on the tv. I grow disappointed and realize I’m not going to get to look at the card other than through the glass of the display case. I start to leave, finally, I hear “Can I help you with something?” Shocked, I turn around and see the employee talking to me. “Yes” I say. “I’d like to look at the 1954 Topps Hank Aaron you have in the case down there please”.
“Ohh, that’s a big-boy card”.
What kind of reply is that? What kind of customer service is that? I’m not in there looking at Mike Trout cards. I’m not in there thumbing through Elly De La Cruz stuff. I’m 50 years old, have been collecting cards for 40 of them, and have a collection most people would thoroughly enjoy, including several “big boy cards”. I cannot think of a time I was ready to spend near 3000$ on an item and had the seller insult me in the process. I left, empty-handed, walked back to my car in the rain. Wasted trip to Louisville.
So, if you want my opinion, and you have read this far, here it goes. Avoid this place. Drive the extra 15 minutes to Through the Decades. You’ll be treated a LOT better. Even though TTD did not have the card I wanted, I’ll wait. I’ll find it there, Indianapolis, Cincinnati or somewhere OTHER than Louisville Sports Cards. Yes, I know it’s there, but I’ll buy it somewhere else for 200$ more before I darken this places door again and steel myself for...
Read moreEdit: response to owner You still think it was just about not buying cards and completely missed the point of my review. Appreciate you taking the time to review your footage and confirm it went down like I said. Hopefully my review will help parents prepare kids for what to expect when they go into your shop.
My son is just getting to the age where he’s interested in collecting cards.
So, we went to Louisville Sports Cards with some of his cards that we looked up and are selling in the $30-$50 range. Nothing too rare or expensive, but he was hoping to sell or trade his first card at a real shop. The clerk said, “I’m real picky,” spent 30 seconds flipping through them, and said “sorry, there’s nothing I want.” Didn’t even bother speaking directly to my son. These folks are just collectors who only view cards as a business.
Disappointed, we decided to try Sandlot Sports Cards. Complete 180 experience. The owner was kind, talked with my son about his favorite teams and players and eventually made a small trade with him. This will be our card shop from now on.
If you want your kid to learn how fun collecting and trading cards can be, I highly recommend Sandlot. If you want to teach your kid the business of buying and selling cards, try Louisville...
Read moreA wonderful gem. I stumbled upon this shop traveling for work. I have been seriously collecting my entire life, 60+ years. Shops were my guilty pleasure for many years on the road. I can say I have never been more impressed with a card shop. The owner, Chris was very informative and showed a true love for the hobby. His associate David was both knowledgeable and fun to talk with. My purchase was modest but I felt at home, like I had met true friends. These guys are a rare breed, passionate, honest and experts in their field. I have traveled the country for decades, this is truly a gem Louisville should be proud to honor as the countries best. Bravo to you guys for keeping the hobby both fresh and alive with your knowledge and enthusiasm. I will be a returning customer for as long as my travels allow. My highest...
