To be completely honest, I feel sad having to leave a negative review for an independently owned business. However, what pains me even more would be seeing another family go through this. I don’t want anyone else to be left with this type of experience. I’m just hoping people are able to read and learn from this and then do whatever they feel is necessary to make sure their family doesn’t have the same experience.
I called to buy a bunk bed. Spoke with Chris, who was extremely helpful. Told me he had reached out to the manufacturer, the bed was on backorder & expected to ship at the end of January, so they could have it to me before the end of the month. Location, shipping, & price were all verified, and I then ordered it.
At that point (only because I had double checked everything with Chris, he had checked with the manufacturer, the order had gone through, & I had done so many double checks on this) - I finally felt comfortable telling our child that he was going to get his dream bed that he helped pick out. He was so proud.
Next, we picked out and ordered a new mattress, several sets of new sheets, a pillow, and mattress and pillow protectors. Spent $1,500 on those.
Then, not that day or the next - but 5 days later - I received an email from Wendy stating, “We regret to inform you that shipping is running higher than we anticipated. The cost of the item plus shipping is running over the cost of the item for us to ship by about $200. You may be able to find another retail that can get better rates and we wanted to give you that opportunity. We have done the refund on our end so it can get back to you as quick as possible. If there is anything else I can help with please let me know.”
I wrote back & explained that Chris had already checked on everything, etc.
Wendy wrote back saying, “I know you are disappointed. I believe the problem originated on our end” and that “The shipping cost of the 2 boxes correct price when checked today are $61.20 Box 1 and $125.36 Box 2. We would be negative $53 for the cost of bed and shipping.”
I wrote back & offered to pay the extra $186 for shipping. Waited few days, no response back. Sent a follow up email.
Wait several more days… and after that? Nothing. My last 2 emails were never replied to. Even after I offered to pay a lot extra for something that they admitted was their own mistake. I so badly wanted to do the right thing for our son - that I even went so far as to offer to pay for their mistake, simply because I didn’t think it was fair to my son. No response.
They waited 5 days to let us know. At that point we weren’t able to cancel the shipment (from a separate company) for the $1,500 in other related items. We are stuck with all of them and no bunkbed. No luck yet finding the bed elsewhere, and the other couple beds that were his next choices are ones that don’t even take this size mattress, so the mattress & other items are a waste.
Many businesses would say don’t worry, this was on our end, we will make sure to still get this item to you. They chose not to do that, which is their choice.
It’s an opportunity for a learning moment, and to teach our child about owning a mistake and then doing whatever is needed to fix it and make it right, even if it means a little bit of revenue is lost or a little extra effort needs to be put forth. Another learning moment with our son about being a business owner, responsibility, and just general learning moments about responding to people and sorting through mistakes - because mistakes happen and that’s ok. What’s important is how they are handled. It’s tough to teach your children those values and then need to explain to them that sometimes companies don’t have those same values. It’s hard for a child to understand why they aren’t fixing the mistake. He was so excited for this and to assemble his new bed with daddy.
Time lost, money lost, & an unfortunate situation. This could have easily been made right, and we gave it several opportunities to...
Read moreI'm not typically one to post a bad review and I like to give the benefit of the doubt to small businesses like this one. However, our experience with an order through this company was absolutely horrific. The company does not specify whether or not their items are in stock, even though they are rather limited on the amount of items offered. We attempted to order a trundle bed, which totaled nearly $1,100. In addition, they tried to charge us a costly delivery fee, although we were located within 100 miles of their warehouse and the fees were never mentioned prior to or even after placing the order. Finally, after not hearing back from them to coordinate the delivery for quite some time, we called the store and the woman was one of the rudest associates I have ever spoken with. She proceeded to tell us that it would be at least 2 weeks until the bed would arrive at the warehouse and additional time for delivery. I asked if there was anything we could do to expedite the process and she responded with "What you need to understand is that we are a REAL store, not an internet store". As I've ordered many items from "real" stores and from "internet" stores, I'm at a loss for understanding the difference. Are "real" stores only required to do the bare minimum, provide little to no details about your order, be distant and incommunicative, provide awful customer service, and make the ordering process as inconvenient as possible? Also, as an individual that successfully runs a retail company, I am aware that any business that allows you to shop and order online constitutes as an "internet" store, as well. I HIGHLY recommend not ordering from...
Read moreMe and my wife live at least 9 hours away in West Virginia. We were in town visiting family and just wanted to look around at nursery furniture because we are expecting. We stumbled upon this small business. Leading up to this we had been to a lot of the big name brand places like Buy Buy Baby and had horrible experiences and they had really steep prices.
That being said we were astounded by the collection Molly Monkey had to offer. They had amazing customer service and were extremely helpful. We went in just looking and loved the atmosphere so much we ended up purchasing a complete furniture set for our nursery. The staff were very informative and did not try to push us to buy which we thought was very respectful.
Their prices were also shocking. The set we bought was retailed at almost 4k but it was on sale and we bought it for almost half that. The set came with a gorgeous crib, chest of drawers, chifforobe, changing tray and changing pad. Everything was nicely packaged and pre assembled. There was no damage to anything once we got it home and set up.
Needless to say we walked away very happy and satisfied with our purchase. I recommend anyone if you are considering buying furniture or anything baby related to not waste your time with the larger companies. Me and my wife will happily drive all the way back to Louisville, KY to visit Molly Monkey Furniture for any of our...
