On Holland Bulb farms, my experience hasn’t been the best overall, but I do enjoy a lot about the site. I still would choose this site over similar sites. That is because they have great sales, free shipping on order over a certain price, and unique plants that you can't find in person. There site is very easy to navigate and order through.
The two problems I’ve had with Holland Bulb Farms is (1) receiving the wrong colors of two plants and (2) rotten or dried out roots that never grew. I have made three orders total through Holland Bulb Farms.
The first order was in 2020 and contained six different roots that each were either $5 or $6 dollars. The order was supposed to contain a Cherry Bandy Black-Eyed Susan. When it got big enough to bloom, it was a yellow Black-Eyed Susan instead. That was very disappointing, since finding a yellow Black-Eyed Susan in stores in very easy. I haven’t ever seen a red Black-Eyed Susan. The plants that failed to grow in the order included a Blue Wonder Toad Lily, Fanal Red Astilbe, and Pink Delight Clematis. The roots for the Toad Lily and Astilbe were obviously not going to grow due to the roots being rotten upon arrival. Those plants were ones that I called customer service on. They immediately said that they couldn’t help me until so many months later. I don’t remember the exact number of months since it was four years ago. I was supposed to give the plants so many months to try to grow. So, I did what they wanted and put them in the ground, even though I new it wasn’t going to grow. That was a bad idea. You put a dead root in the ground, it rots. When it was time to take pictures and send them the dead root, I couldn’t find the plant in the ground. I think, I found some small bits of one of the roots but not enough to prove that it was once a root. I wish I pulled them out earlier. The Clematis started to grow but just didn't go anyware and quickly died. Therefore, that was likely my own fault. The plants that grew fine and I still have from that order include the Black-Eyed Susan I mentioned, an Indigo Veronica, and Fireball Bee Balm.
The second order I had from the site was that same summer in 2020, it was a complete success. It included four healthy roots that grew fine and I still have all four. They never had any diseases. They include a White Feather Hosta, The Rocket Ligularia, Peter Brand Peony, and Chocoholic Snakeroot (which is my favorite plant in my garden). With the exception of the Peter Brand Peony, those are very difficult to find in a store or greenhouse.
The last order was in 2021 and contained a $13 Pineapple Lily bulb, $3 Phlox (on sale), and a $30 Fairytale Calla Lily Collection. Once the Burgundy Pineapple Lily grew, it was not burgundy but a standard green. I was still satisfied with the plant because I never had a Pineapple Lily before and it is a cool plant. The Calla Lily Collection included nine bulbs total: three pink, three purple, and three black. The pink and purple came in perfect shape. The three black were 100% dried out and obviously would not grow. It was a similar scenario to the first shipment I had. I waited the appropriate months I needed too, but honestly, couldn’t figure out what I did with the bulbs at that point. The other bulbs grew fine and I still have the calla lilies. Eventually I lost the pineapple lily of my own fault. Then, I believe it was my fault the phlox failed to grow.
Overall, I would definitely still recommend Holland Bulb farms due to the great sales, free shipping option on I believe orders over $75, and the unique plants that you unlikely will...

I wish I could say something good about my transaction with holland bulb farm but so far it has only been incredibly frustrating. I placed my order for 100 stargazer Lillies during their end of season sale, our wedding flowers and something we LOVE the fragrance of. When the flowers arrived I immediately got them in some soil and hoped for the best so late in the season, they grew pretty well probably about 70-80 plants grew and several had buds, but when the flowers bloomed I quickly realized these were not what I thought I purchased, although pretty none of the flowers were stargazer Lillies but they were asiatic Lillies (pretty yes, but absolutely no fragrance). I went through weeks of emails and sends pictures to prove the flowers were wrong and in the end the offered a $35 gift certificate, I asked for my order to just be shipped correctly instead (I even offered to wait until they are restocked) they refused to reship my order and told me they would only offer a $35 gift certificate. Today, 10 days after receiving the gift certificate, I tried to purchase some other flowers and my gift certificate was not valid, I confirmed it was correct and tried again still not valid I contacted customer support and after several messages telling me I was doing it wrong, they told me my gift certificate was canceled 2 days after issuing it, I was told I relieved a refund, but I didn't receive any refund at my bank, I didn't ask for a refund so I don't understand why they canceled the gift certificate without notifying me and customer service is incredibly frustrating to deal with and not helpfull at all. At this point I'm not sure this company isn't a scam, I see other reviews that said they received their order and were happy but that defiantly is not my experience and right now I have flowers I don't want (and offered to ship back the bulbs) and no refund, this whole experience was horrible and I'm being this whole growing season. Right now definitely can't recommend this company to anyone if you want to receive what you...
Read moreI've been a loyal Holland Bulbs Farms customer for years. They have a fantastic variety of beautiful flower bulbs in many categories & there's always some new & intriguing varieties to choose from. The products arrive fresh & healthy, however, in the rare instance of a problem, they are quick to remedy it.
I still have beautiful Daffodils that come up in my garden every Spring that I ordered from Holland Bulb 6 years ago. The trick is, after the blooms fade, let their foilage remain as is, in order for the bulb to gather nutrients for next years blooms. Once it starts to turn yellow, it's safe to cut it back. My daffodils have multiplied every year & what was one bulb now looks like a daffodil boquet. I still order more bulbs each Fall & Spring as there's always room for more flowers, in my opinion. The Lily Value Bags are a great value, (all their mix/Value bags are) everything I've ever planted from them have come up, looked gorgeous & they also multiply every year. One of the varities, a yellow tiger, I'm guessing, grew to over 6 ft tall last Spring & all my neighbors stopped & remarked on it's beauty. I like to plant enough of them so my garen is colorful & that I can also snip some to enjoy inside or give in arrangements to neighbors.
I enjoy shopping at Holland Bulb Farms via their website as it's easy to navigate, has lots of photos, detailed growing instructions for each item & a handy "wish list" feature where you can save items you see & are thinking about or want at another time. Also, you accumulate "points" with each purchase that you can use as cash towards a future purchase.
I often look at other online flower & bulb websites but I always end up back at Holland Bulbs Farms due to their wide variety, having items in stock & also, their prices are really are great. Even more so if something's on sale. Plus, they have a guarantee they...
