As someone who comes from a big city background and knows how the small Hispanic stores open up and become successful, I feel the need to share this review for the improvement of both the business and guest experience.
Do not let the 3 stars fool you. I still recommend you come and check this place out. Bring cash as sometimes the card reader doesn't work.
Before you continue reading, I want you to know I gave this meat market 3 stars because I feel like there is much room for improvement. If they listen to this review and apply what I'm telling them, I KNOW they will get more business and this review can easily change from 3 stars to 5 stars. I may sound a bit direct in my improvement suggestions, but its because I want this store to thrive. It has potential and I feel like if they take the time to just look around and apply these things, they can succeed well beyond expected.
POSITIVE COMMENTS *Throwback to anyone growing up going to Hispanic meat markets *Bacon here is $2.29 a lb, an EXCELLENT price that I don't think even Walmart carries for this quality *The store boasts sweet bread, tamales, bolillos, and excellent variety of meats *The store also has a diner area where you can order cooked food.
IMPROVEMENTS *It is a small town store, therefore most prices for many things will be a bit higher.
*I feel like the store attempted to open too big, too quickly. I would advise RMM (Recuerdos Meat Market) to scale down on some of the items they make like the sweet breads and bolillos. Ensure that your product remains fresh and focus on perfecting the textures. Once you have the system, then add more products.
*Tamales here are great, 7 out of 10. I believe they could improve the texture and size for what you pay. As it stands currently, 1.99 for that size and texture is not worth the price. If the price is going to remain the same, increase the amount of tamale by 50% and again, perfect the system so that the texture is consistent. If they land this right, they have the potential of becoming the #1 tamale provider in MW.
*Signage for products and services needs to improve dramatically. The restrooms were nowhere to be found, and the price tags are too small. This is a town full of elderly people, the tags should be bigger for a more convenient guest experience. The food at the diner area could also use work in regards to having paper menus. The TV menu switches in less than 5 seconds, and there's about 5 different sections. People would rather give up ordering than try to stick around guessing the prices of what you offer. Thankfully, I posted some pics on this review where you can read the different sections on the TV menu.
*The store requires better care of the registers. I tried paying with card but it wasn't going through even though I ran my card earlier to pay separately for the tamales at the deli register. I ended up having to pay cash and even then, the register did not have enough change. The card situation should be looked into, but even more, ensuring your register has backup coins and cash to ensure proper transactions.
*Lastly, quesabirrias are supposed to have cheese. Its in the name. However, these did not. Another thing that could be...
Read moreMy daughter and I came in to get some tamales a week ago. When we got there around 2pm and asked for the tamale plate at first they were available and after the employees had some back and forth conversations they suddenly didnât have any. I asked if they had tacos and was told they did. I asked if they were on corn tortillas because I canât have flour and she assured me they were just corn . I have celiac but because of the language barrier I just emphasized I canât have flour or I get violently ill. After assuring me they were corn , my daughter and I ordered 6 chicken tacos. When she repeated back the order she said 6 chicken tacos on flour . NOPE! I nicely repeated the order and she went back to place it. A few seconds later she came and asked if we wanted cilantro and onions ( yes please ) and peppers from fajitas . Sure if they are not an extra cost. We browsed the store which is nice and has some reasonably priced fruits and veggies. She got a strawberry empanada which she ate after we left and I bought a container of their pico de gallo. First I must praise the empanada on her behalf. She said it had great flavor and wasnât too sweet. When we got home we discovered we had 5 steak tacos đ©There was NO one else there whose order we could have accidentally been switched with . I really donât eat steak ( last ate a bite in 2000) but I figured I would just go with the flow. The meat was AWFUL. Gristly, tough ( I barely was able to chew through one bite of my taco) and the flavor was terrible . I love street tacos and have eaten many of them so I can say this was one of the worst tasting ones I have had. I was very sick all night which means there was gluten in their sauce or marinade . Thatâs bizarre to me because I never have any problems with chicken street tacos . Bottom line is check your order if you get food and I do not suggest their steak tacos. Perhaps they are fresher at 11 but even at 2 they shouldnât be as...
Read moreWent here the other day to pick up some Chirizo and veggies; I wound up purchasing much more. I left a happy customer because the prices were amazing and the staff were very friendly. I picked up some seasoned fajita meat and some freshly made guacamole. I went home and grilled the fajitas and opened up the container of guacamole, and they were better most restaurants. This is my new place for my meat shopping and fresh...
