I had never been to this location until yesterday. I can see that it was formerly a Great Escape theater, which was a now-defunct chain I always admired. This VIP company thankfully didn't make any unnecessary changes to the location. The lobby, restroom, and auditoriums were impeccably clean. The staff was incredibly friendly. And I was very pleasantly surprised by the low ticket and concession prices. Only $9 for an evening ticket. Also very happy with the variety of features and plethora of showtimes available from the early morning to late in the evening, even on a weekday. I also like how their restrooms have two entrance/exits on each side to make human traffic inside much less frustrating on busier days. Much like the Cinemark multiplex in Davenport the auditoriums here are very open and spacious. Even their smallest auditoriums are much bigger than most "modern" cinemas. The screens are designed the way I prefer them to be, which is at a constant image height, this makes the films that are shot in cinemascope fill the enite screen wall-to-wall instead of having black bars on the top and bottom of the screen like most newer theaters like to do these days to save on square-footage. While the seats are not recliners, they do still lean back at a very comfy angle, they are nicely cushioned and are comfortably wide enough for people like myself who have a bigger-than-average midsection. At no point did I need to shift in my seat. Very relaxing. My only negative criticism for this theater regards the sound systems. Both movies that I watched that day had blown-out speakers in their respective auditoriums which were quite distracting to hear crackle and buzz during scenes with big symphonic music or gunshot/explosion bass-heavy effects. Ultimately a minor quibble, but one that I feel needed...
Read moreI hadn't been to this theater since the change in ownership. We decided to see Nosferatu on Christmas. For some reason, the projected movie did not fit the screen. They changed the size of it a few times but never got it right. One size had the subtitles underneath the bottom of the screen, but the picture was in focus and in high def. The other size was a little blurry, but the subtitles were readable. They settled on the blurry one. Both options had part of the screen on the ceiling.
I'm sure there were staff members who took the day off for Christmas, but the experience was just not enjoyable. I would like to be able to support a Moline theater instead of having to drive to Davenport, but I won't be going back until I hear things have changed. I don't need the nicer seats for higher prices in Davenport. Having a decent theater on the Illinois side again would be easy to support if they can at least make the movie fit inside...
Read moreWorst movie theatre experience ever. Me and my girlfriend came here in June to see a movie very late. There were no other customers present and, given that we were the only two in the lobby, had already purchased tickets, and are of age, getting in should have been easy. However, because we didn’t have ID, we were blocked from entering and referred to a very ambiguous refund process. I still have not received my money from the two tickets, even after following the refund policy instructions and issuing another notice. The workers that night pulled a fast one and made their ticket money without actually having to do any work, as the refund never came through even after being ushered away from what we’d...
