I am writing to you regarding a recent experience I had at the Chipotle location in Moline, IL on the evening of January 24, 2023, between 6:15 pm and 6:45 pm.
I want to start by saying that I have been a regular customer at Chipotle and have always appreciated the healthy options your establishment provides. However, my recent visit was quite unpleasant, and I feel it is important to bring it to your attention.
Upon arriving at the counter, I explained to the staff that I have celiac disease, a medical condition that requires certain accommodations to avoid cross-contamination. I requested fresh ingredients, new spoons, and a change of gloves, similar to the precautions taken for a gluten allergy. Initially, the staff was accommodating and began fulfilling my request.
Unfortunately, the situation took a turn when one staff member, whom I have attached a photo of for reference, engaged in an argument with me down the line. She insisted that they were not required to switch spoons or provide fresh ingredients for a "gluten allergy." Despite my attempts to explain my medical condition and the importance of these accommodations, she argued otherwise and eventually agreed to do it as a one-time exception. She also refused to provide her name, stating that she was not legally obligated to do so.
I want to highlight that the gentleman working the register intervened and assured me that he would take care of my order for the remainder of my visit. He suggested calling ahead in the future for such requests, but I expressed my willingness to wait and observe the process. I understand the challenges associated with handling allergens in a fast-food environment but believe that education and understanding can go a long way in ensuring a positive experience for customers with specific dietary needs.
The incident left me feeling disappointed and concerned about the lack of courtesy demonstrated by this particular staff member. I hope that she was just having a bad night, but her actions were distressing, and I felt compelled to bring it to your attention. As someone with limited dining options due to my condition, I choose Chipotle because it has been a reliable and safe choice for me.
I want to acknowledge the rest of the crew who went above and beyond to make me feel like a valued customer. Despite this isolated incident, I appreciate the efforts of your team to provide excellent service.
I understand that there may be a brief training video on gluten precautions, but I wanted to emphasize that certain aspects, such as cross-contamination of spoons touching tortillas and then being placed back in the same food bins, may not be adequately addressed. I believe that fostering a culture of understanding and empathy among your staff can greatly enhance the overall customer experience.
Understanding of my rankings: Food - Good Service - The one individual circled in the photo was rude, snide, and unprofessional. Would have received 0 stars if it weren't for her co-workers who stepped in and assisted me. Atmosphere - Would have been 4 stars but I could hear her talking to her co-workers in the back, etc. while I...
Read moreIngredients were being withheld from dine-in customers due to "customers not giving tips!" WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Went here for lunch today with my son and grandson. Three women running the front line informed us there was no cheese, guacamole or sour cream. Since my grandson loves the rice and beans, I reluctantly got our food, despite the missing ingredients. I didn't initially catch the reason why those ingredients weren't available until I heard the women telling other customers that they weren't available because "customers weren't tipping." I then noticed that cheese/guacamole and sour cream were available on the to-go/pick-up/door dash prep line. So essentially, if you wanted cheese, guacamole and sour cream, you had to order your food via in store pick up and leave a tip. When ringing up my order, they did not ask if I wanted drinks or chips. When she told me the amount due I asked for chips and drinks. The cashier acted like I had just made an unreasonable request and said it couldn't be added to this order, I would have to pay for it separately - which I ended up doing. While eating, I noticed probably half a dozen customers walk out due to the ingredients not being served. Also, the brown rice was hard and under cooked, and the chicken was burned. I also had several pieces of steak mixed in with my chicken. I know sometimes pieces fall into the chicken tray, but this was an obscene amount. Obviously someone didn't care and was flipping dropped pieces of steak into the chicken. I don't typically tip when I go through a fast food line. If I was being served at a table or having my food delivered, I would tip. But I find it a bit ridiculous that these employees felt so entitled to tips that they restricted the available ingredients as "punishment" for all customers because they weren't being tipped. Just a recommendation: if you want tips for jobs that don't traditionally recieve tips, provide exceptional customer service and food that is...
Read moreLaurel(sp?) made my day! Recently I broke my wrist in a car accident and just got a cast put on. This morning I fell down the stairs and the pepsi I was carrying exploded all over the stairwell. I had to go to work so I cleaned what I could before I left. Shortly after getting to work I received news that a close family friend had a stroke but is doing okay. Bummed at work, I couldn't do my normal job because of my cast so I was on desk duty. When I got home I cleaned up the rest of the pepsi all over the walls. After my pride being hurt because I couldn't function like normal and the terrible news I decided to finally go eat. I decided I wanted a burrito because who isn't happier with a burrito?! I go to order and the woman making the food informed me the brown rice wasn't ready yet and another woman told me it would be a few minutes so I offered to take a seat and wait. Moments later Laurel started asking me about my arm and we started talking about skydiving and my accident. I finished ordering and she asked if I needed anything else so I got a drink. Laurel told me that she was going to add the drink and cover the charge so I proceeded to hand her my card. She smiled and said that it was all paid for, including my burrito and guacamole. I was shocked because I didn't do anything but wait a couple minutes for the rice to finish. Laurel put a smile on my face and raised my spirits. I thanked her and sat down to eat. I couldn't thank her enough for being so nice to me so I hope she is rewarded for her genuine personality. She's definitely a great asset to the restaurant and I'll be visiting again soon!...
