In 2020, I was dealing with extreme pain that seemed to come out of nowhere. I was vomiting for weeks, couldn’t keep water down, had extreme pain from my menstrual cycles, etc. I was trying to find a diagnosis to relieve me. I went to the Monroe emergency department one day to try and find relief from my symptoms, that felt like they were killing me from the inside out. I was met with Dr Ram P. Sharma, who told me I was not experiencing any pain. I sat there crying and moaning for hours, only to be met with completely unempathetic ears and an extremely rude attitude. Dr Ram told me, verbatim, “ I see the way you look, I see how skinny you are, I see the pick marks on your face. I know exactly why you’re here.” That doctor and that instance has caused me more medical trauma than anyone will ever understand. The pick marks on my face, were from cystic acne, from the disorder I was FINALLY diagnosed with, with no help from your facility. In fact the only help Dr Ram did give me, was the advice of, when asked where I could get an MRI, “I don’t know, you’re an adult you can figure it out yourself.” I was 22 dealing with immense pain having never navigated the healthcare system alone.
Fast forward to may 8th, 2024. I have been off my birth control for months due to not being able to get a refill. I came into the emergency department to seek relief from the immense pain I was feeling and the constant vomiting. I was not helped at all. I was put in a bed in the hallway, where the entire floor could hear me dry heaving and throwing up more than hourly. The nurses checked on me a few times, but the doctor refused to give me anything stronger than Tylenol. I went through my notes from my visit that day, and it is full of untruths and exaggerations on Dr Sonja Piber’s part. The dr continued to say that I refused imaging, and that I was persistent in receiving narcotics. I only asked for narcotics after every thing they gave me did not work, and I was met with disbelief and treated as though I was drug seeking and attention seeking. I left without receiving Tylenol because I will not pay to get it in a hospital when I know it will not work due to my previous medical history, including ALL of my diagnoses. The doctor lied on the notes, saying that I had not experienced ANY VOMITING while I was there. I was vomiting the entire time! To the point where other nurses would stop by and ask me if I needed another vomit bag. Why did the doctor say I was never vomiting while I was there? I walked IN vomiting.
I am extremely disappointed with the way that this emergency room handles young people who are in pain or searching for medical answers. I plan on filing grievances with dr Ram Sharma and with dr Sonja Piber. To know that this is how our young people are being treated is something that more people should be aware of when sending them to your facility. I went to the emergency department in Kirkland and was immediately met with kindness and understanding. The drs were fully prepared to run as many tests as needed and wanted to make sure I was not in pain. That is what doctors should do.
At this point I am at a loss of words, I can not say how traumatized this experience has made me and my entire family feel. I don’t know what to do, I don’t know where to go, but I know that this needs brought to...
Read moreThis place is a joke. I am so beyond disappointed in the level of care my son received here. He hit his head and needed stitches, we brought him to the ER immediately after it happened. In the waiting room is where it began, there was a bloody towel left in the waiting room, they took an adult who had arrived after us with a hand laceration, over a 5 year old boy with a head laceration. From there we waited in the waiting room for another 15 minutes, once we got into the room, the doctor looked at his wound and said he would leave it for the next doctor because his shift was over in 15 minutes, he didn’t check for a concussion or anything else. No check ins, no offer of pain medication for him until the next doctor finally showed up 1.5 hours later. We have now been sitting in the ER since 9:30pm. We watched at least 4 other patients come and go before they moved us. Once they finally brought us back to the room where they would do the stitches, I overheard one of the nurses mention a pediatric dose and then say, “I hope it doesn’t kill him.” Any parent would freak out since they are giving him light sedation. The other nurse apologized and made the excuse of her shift is almost over. It is currently 2:10 am the next day, we are still waiting. Once they were finally ready to see my child, it was so late he had fallen asleep and was woken up to pretty much getting a shot in his arm. My son has received the least amount of care I have ever seen in a hospital. From now on I will go to any other hospital than this. It’s 3:30 in the morning and we are finally being discharged. It was traumatic, way to long for to wait for my child to get care(6hours)...
Read moreOn 1/10/23, I took my 77 yo husband to the ER in Monroe, expecting a 5 hour wait and less-than-optimal treatment, based on the reviews I had read. Oh my gosh, our actual experience was SO DIFFERENT! At 8:30 am, we walked right up to the sign-in window, after a few very simple questions we were all set and sat down to wait. Within 5 minutes, we were called in. The Nurse IMMEDIATELY began an IV, took all his vital signs, asked for a urine sample, etc. Dr. Frierson was quickly in the room asking my husband questions about his symptoms in a kind, attentive manner and explaining clearly what more tests they were going to run. An EKG was taken in the room, then a technician came in with liquid for my husband to drink prior to being taken away to have 3 CAT scans done which only took 10 minutes! A nurse (Laura?) even asked me if I wanted a cup of coffee and how much cream and sugar I wanted and brought it to me!! Every single person there was kind, polite, and excellent at their job. Dr. Frierson even took the time to consult with my husband's PCP, and to suggest further follow up tests on an out-patient basis. The ER was very busy, yet he gave us his full attention. Truly one of the best, most efficient ERs we have used. They were recommended by our daughter and deservedly so. We will gratefully return to this ER if ever necessary and we recommend this facility, this staff, these kind...
