Visited Alchemy Scent Bar for date night with my boyfriend and we had such a great time! We scheduled a reservation online and walked over after getting a bite to eat nearby. I believe walk in's are okay as well, reservations are recommended.
Alchemy is located next to an ice cream spot (Benvenuti Montclair), sandwich spot (Dutch's Sandwich Shop), diner (Raymonds) and so much more which makes Alchemy the perfect spot to hang out and enjoy good eats before and/or after your visit.
The space is beautiful! I love the open concept and it's upkept very well. When we walked in, we were greeted by the staff and seated at our designated candle making area. You can create your own candle, reed diffuser, room spray and more! My bf and I opted for a candle and the container choices are great! Each container is priced differently as you'll see on the shelf. Once you choose a container, it's time to choose a scent. The selection is HUGE! They told us to narrow it down to a couple scents that we love which was 90% of them, haha.
After choosing our top scents, we made our way back to our station and the staff brought over each fragrance oil to see how we like certain scents together. I went for agave, anjou pear and lychee. My bf went for bonsai, palo santo and bordeaux. Once we mixed in our fragrance oils and poured them into our candle container, it was time to give the candle a name. I chose "self love" and you can decorate the sticker to stick under your candle.
If you make a reservation early enough in the day, you can pick up your candle before their close or you can visit when they are open again. The candle needs time to cure/harden before taking it home.
Highly suggest Alchemy Scent Bar for a girls night, date night,...
Read moreSo full disclosure, I’m a pretty typical dude. I know absolutely nothing about scents. Candles, oils, diffusers… all of it is way outside my lane. I walked into Alchemy Scent Bar just trying to get a candle for my mom and figured I’d be in and out quick.
But man… this place completely won me over.
From the second I walked in, the vibe was immaculate. The decor is dope. Cozy and artsy, with this super cool wall of vintage matchbooks that I couldn’t stop staring at. (Couldn’t help the compulsion to take a selfie. Couldn’t help it. The whole spot is Instagram-worthy without even trying.)
The staff? Straight-up amazing. Chill, welcoming, and way more helpful than I deserved. They didn’t make me feel dumb for not knowing anything they guided me through the whole process, helped me pick out a scent combo that actually made sense, and even let me pour the candle myself. And gave me instructions on how to properly use it after a week. They’re like friendly scent wizards. They genuinely made it a fun process.
What I thought would be a quick errand turned into one of the best little experiences I’ve had in a long time. I left with a gift my mom loved and a new appreciation for the world of scents.
Alchemy Scent Bar is a hidden gem. Whether you’re into candles or not, go check it out. Trust me, if a guy like me can walk in clueless and walk out grinning, you’ll...

I do appreciate the time she took to connect with me as her call alone went a long way! I do look forward to a more memorable experience in my next visit.
l was sooooo excited to be coming here as it was my first time and an early bday get together with my friend. The concept is awesome the place is beautiful but you’re timed. We had an hour to do everything which is fine but I kid you not I felt soooo rushed, which really took away from the experience. We arrived on time did the smelling within 30 mins and the second half felt like they’re just pushing you to leave when we weren’t even done with the reservation window. Then my helper was like you love it? & before I could even answer she answered for me saying okay you love it and took it away from me so fast. Then came a gentleman that I’m going to assume was either a manager or maybe owner & he seemed annoyed like he really wanted us to leave and asked me if I had enjoyed myself as he’s walking away like do you even care for the experience cuz I was able to read the energy and it was not it. Kinda disappointed about that part, which leads me to believe they don’t actually care they’re just there to get ppl in and out. The other staff were so nice...
