Months ago, I was helping my mother clean her home and we came across a dozen old VHS tapes. We use to watch these videos every other year using the camera that recorded these tapes but then that broke. And we didn’t own a VHS player either, so we were left with just the tapes and no way of being able to view them. I decided to take the tapes with me and spent weeks searching online for a company that transfer these tapes over to USB and actually get the job done. As anyone would be, I was very hesitant at first, and skeptical about various companies, because the last thing that I wanted to do was hand my old video tapes over to a company that would either not do the job properly or damage these valuables.

I came across Everpresent and noticed they had fewer reviews than I liked but we’re all five star reviews. I decided to pull the trigger and set up an appointment with one of its locations in charge of handling and delivering these video tapes to Everpresent themselves. The location at Mountclair, New Jersey threw me off initially because I was searching for a big EVERPRESENT sign but instead it was a beautiful tile/art shop (forgive me if I’m wrong) ran by this incredible human being who uses her shop as a drop off/pick up point for EverPresent. She explained the process and handled these tapes carefully.

I believe I dropped these off 2 weeks prior to Christmas, with the expectation of getting them back before Christmas, but I also think that was a bit far-fetched of me. Especially since I had dropped off 12 VHS tapes with over 15 hours of recordings.

I ended up receiving my tapes back last week (last week of January 2022). Throughout that time, Everpresent sent me various emails to update me on where they were with the digitalization process, which was great. Their customer service was also great as I came across a payment issue and had some questions and was able to get everything resolved.

A few days ago, I went over to my mom’s place and had my siblings and dad come over too. Now I’ll be honest, my family isn’t perfect. My parents are separated and my siblings and I bicker and disagree with each there on many things. But one thing for certain, there is a lot of love between us and these recordings reminded us of that. To be able to once again watch these old videos of us growing up and all the silly things we did simply brought tearful joy to everyone’s eyes. It felt good being able to give my family, especially my parents, another chance to watch these tapes and rewatch them as often as they’d like.

I apologize to my readers for the length of this review. But I simply wanted to put this out there that these guys do a fantastic job. A tiny portion of the tapes did come out distorted or unwatchable, but that was noted by them ahead of time as some of the VHS tapes had mold on them. So do be mindful that they are doing their best to work with what you have and the conditions that you have kept your old recordings in. They made this clear throughout the entire time and even provided a final analysis report detailing the conditions of the tapes, the severity of it, and what to expect. But as they noted in one of their initial emails, the less you hear from them, the better as it only means that everything is going well with the digitalization process.
