I cannot say ENOUGH good things about Yoga Mechanics! If you can "judge" a studio by its space - this alone would be enough. It's gorgeous. It's airy, it feels light and feels warm...it is both vibrant and expansive, yet feels cozy.
I've enjoyed every class - both in person and online. I'm grateful for the continuation of the online component because it allows me to attend when I don't have the extra 15 minutes on either end of a class to show up in person. Or for any of us who are immunocompromised or around those who are - whatever the reason, I'm grateful YM classes online persist (+ I detest online living).
And to that end - this is the ONLY studio where classes start and end ON time-ish. And while the instructors give dharma talks, they are always on point without being long winded or self serving.
I love the attention to alignment and while it's hard to believe that a class can fly by without music, these do.
The hour class options are great for people who (like me) want to get it over with during the week. Although - to be honest - I ALWAYS want more.
And while this may sound ridiculous to some as part of a review - this is a studio that washes their communal blankets and floors and replaces overused blocks and cleans the bathroom.
That alone would bring me in. But it's the collective effervescence that makes me return. Gladly. Gloriously.
This is a gem of a yoga studio. Lucky, lucky Montclair....
Read moreWhen I moved to the Montclair area earlier this year, I had been practicing yoga on and off for years, but never stuck with it because I never found a studio I loved. When I stumbled upon Yoga Mechanics after searching for studios in the area, I immediately felt comfortable. All the yoga teachers here are incredibly thoughtful, and lead classes that focus on making sure that students are engaging in the right alignment for the poses to prevent injuries, which was so important to me because I’ve hurt myself doing yoga in the past, when I took classes that didn’t prioritize proper alignment and keeping the body safe during practice. Another thing I love about this studio is that it’s an incredible community, and everyone from the owners to the teachers to the students are just wonderful. Another thing that I appreciate about Yoga Mechanics is that there are so many different teachers, and each brings their own personality and approach to yoga to their classes, so there is a lot of variety and something for everyone. I love Yoga Mechanics and am so grateful to have found my studio...
Read moreMore than a yoga studio, Yoga Mechanics is a family. Over the last four years since I’ve experienced nothing but nurturing support, spiritual and physical growth, and great vibes.
All of the staff is warm and welcoming and, while each teacher has their own style and personality, there are consistent themes throughout: — yoga is about yoking with life—negotiating with our minds and our bodies in the present moment, showing up to the mat with the aim of getting a bit closer to balance, not to achieve perfection. —you can never learn enough about the basics of a pose. YM reminds us to enter poses we have “mastered” mindfully rather than automatically. We are stronger when we have a solid foundation.
Each teacher offers a variety of access points for poses, accommodating all physical needs and preferences, so you always feel safe.
Plus, YM has all kinds of fun events like Sunset/Sunrise Yoga, sound baths, and dance parties!
YM has changed my life for the better. You can’t...
