Bleu Coffee — Restaurant in Montclair

Blue is a coffee shop that opened up less than a week ago next to Fit in Montclair. It's not very big but is mostly a commuter coffee shop as it's next door to the Walnut Street train station. It does have a half dozen or so tables and offers free Wi-Fi.

I must say that it is a little strange with how it shares space with Fit. For example, you have to go into the coffee shop to get into one of the yoga rooms, which I found odd. There's also some kind of office space upstairs which, again, you have to enter the coffee shop to get to. The yoga room was a little distracting when it got out and all these barefoot women came walking through the coffee shop. So much for no shoes, no shirt, no service.

Yoga room notwithstanding, I did enjoy my experience and I will be back. The pastries look delicious and I'll have to try one next time. The staff was very nice...

The coffee itself is nothing to write home about—espresso is underextravted, overpriced for the quality you get. The pastries are mostly frozen, and you can tell they’re not as fresh as they try to make them seem. For a place charging premium prices, you’d expect a lot more in terms of quality and consistency.

The whole vibe feels off, like there’s a serious management problem going on. It’s a place that looks good in pictures but falls flat once you’re actually there. If you’re looking for a café where you can enjoy your coffee in peace without feeling the awkward, tense energy, you’re better off going...

We went one early sunday morning and crowd picked up at around 10am-ish. Service was still timely though and there was still enough eats to choose from. We just got their coffee and although I found their Dulce de Leche to be quite sweet the Pistachio Oatmilk Latte though was perfect! and none of that artificial nutty taste. I’d get that next time instead of stealing my husband’s order lol great coffee...
