I'm a Visions regular, and I've been going there for years, ever since they moved from the Debby Drive location on the other side of town. To answer some of the concerns the other reviewers have made:
Yes the language can get sort of course, but the employees do try to regulate it as much as possible, but when there are 50+ people in the store, you can't stop everyone.
They don't hate children, in fact they have Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments every week, which are primarily for the kids. What they don't want is extremely young children who don't know how to behave themselves being dropped off by their parents as though Visions was some kind of free day care. They allow anyone to come in, sit down, and play the game of their choice for free, but that doesn't mean they're gonna raise your kids for you.
The woman who came in and said she felt like everyone was watching her, well all I can say is you have to understand who you're talking about. We're gamers/nerds/geeks/whatever, and for the most part women don't come in the store, so the guys hanging around were probably just happy that a lady was making an appearance. I can't speak for the employees though...if you were selling cards to the store, they're somewhat cheap on that front anyway, so don't feel like it was just you. The market for singles is rough, and the store has to make as much money on those as it can in order to stay open for nerds like me to hang out there.
All in all, if you're looking for a good gamer hangout, check them out. They play a lot of CCGs like Magic, Vanguard, and others, and you can also usually find them playing other board games or tabletops like...
Read moreThree or four stars, leaning on four. Visions is a pretty good place to hang out and you can meet lots of new people here.. but I don't always feel comfortable with the atmosphere and crowd there. I feel like a lot of the people that play Magic there are unapproachable and uptight.. probably they're just not my kind of people/I just can't relate to them because I'm kind of a casual player. but I dunno.. My experiences have been best with the tabletop gaming. People there are generally very kind and friendly.. They are happy to help beginners and the games are generally newbie friendly. They come up with creative ideas on how to make the games more fun... ^^ It has been my best experiences of table-top gaming so far.
My biggest complaint is with the background noise/chatter. Omg.. It triggers my anxiety so much. That's why I don't go there often.. They had music.. not sure how often they play music like that and it would be a recent thing.. but that didn't even help decrease my anxiety too much.
I don't exactly know what I think about the staff. I don't talk to them much, and don't think they are very relatable..
I don't feel like Vision's is a very welcoming place.. when you first walk in.. People aren't excited to meet strangers. They're busy talking or playing games. Its a very serious place. xD
I have known about Visions for years, and Visions is better than it used to be. I am glad about that. Hopefully something can be done about the background noise. v.v
Last but not least.. The merchandise is pretty good. I'm so glad we have a game store like Visions. I wish they sold more than just games, though.. Like maybe comics...
Read moreI stopped by last month on a Wednesday while in town to see if I could pick up a quick game or two of Commander to blow off steam. The clerk said that FNM would be my best bet because the Montgomery MTG community is smaller than my LGS back home. Fortunately 2 customers overheard my conversation and chimed in to say that they would be willing to play. One went out to the car and grabbed a deck the other borrowed one of my decks. We had a very pleasant hour or so and all 3 guys invited me back to play on Friday if I was still in town. Fortunately again, I was and I did stop by on Friday to play. The community was very welcoming. All new set of players (same clerk- sorry I don’t remember his name). The store seemed to be buzzing with Magic players and another game I didn’t recognize as well as a DND campaign in the back. I’m certain I’ll be back the next time...
