An average C+ spot to buy from and to consign at. Yes the prices are high compared to thrift stores but you have to keep in mind that they don't set the prices - the people who drop off their stuff to be consigned choose the prices. Most of those folks don't seem to understand that customers at these sorts of venues are looking for items cheap - very cheap. Items get consigned for a lot more then they should. But you don't have to buy them either. It's often a treasure hunt - lots of junk or overpriced items but there are some good ones too. That's a big part of the fun. And they reduce the price of most things the longer they sit there.
The big issue is consigning your own stuff. That's where it gets messy. The owner Elmo and his wife are very nice. Too nice a lot of the time and they will accept almost anything. They shouldn't because much of it is crap, and if it does sell it will only sell for next to nothing which makes it not worth the effort for anyone involved. The other guy you'll see in these reviews often is named Mike. He's a huge mystery. Very lazy, rude, and will never ever accept anything you try and drop off to consign. I figure he must have saved owner's life back in 'Nam because there is just no other explanation of why they keep him around. I've even taken videos and showed the owner of him sitting around, being rude, and not even being willing to ask what I've got when I've come in to consign something. Basically him sitting there and me saying "I'd like to consign something" and Mike saying "Not going to happen" and me saying "You don't even know what it is - could be super small and not take up any space, but still valuable. You should at least look or even ask what I've got." and Mike saying "Nope - don't care at all". Elmo knows full well he does this and will even defend him if you bring it up. Very odd but its not going to change.
SO - if you consign stuff you've got to make sure that either Elmo or his wife will be there when you drop it off. You have to call ahead of time to be certain. Otherwise it won't happen. Mike will refuse it. Next, if it's valuable at all you need to be sure you take pictures and get a receipt in writing. Then check in frequently about a sale. If you don't, the items always tend to have "been taken to Goodwill" or some will have vanished or they won't have a record of ever getting them. I had a nice grandmother clock that sat forever and when I finally went to retrieve it, they claimed it had been left without the key or vital parts like the pendulum. This of course was blatantly false, as Elmo dabbles in clocks and thoroughly checked it over when it was left. Plus even I know that it's virtually useless without those pieces and would have never tried to sell it without them. But since I didn't take any photos, I couldn't prove anything and I left with a worthless shell. Thus be sure you've got photo evidence if there are multiple parts and pieces. Same with fragile items. I wouldn't doubt Mike just tosses stuff around in there like its all made of foam. If anything is damaged during the constant moving from inside to the outside, they will just claim it arrived that way and you're out of luck.
In conclusion, I've bought some nice items there on occasion and I've consigned some things as well and made some money. But you do take a risk, and you have to be careful to not deal with Mike. If you go in not having high expectations and you make certain to deal with just the owners, you won't be disappointed - and maybe even pleasantly surprised...
Read moreMy mother moved across the country and upon recommendation, chose these guys to sell a lot of her furniture. First off, their customer service is terrible, the guy at the counter was completely fine with swearing in front of me, and ignored me every time I was there. When he did respond to me, there was no "hello, how are you," etc, he was very rude and just said "you need something?" which I know isn't the worst thing ever, but it gets better. A month after my mom left, she called to see what had sold and what was left, and the owner said he didn't know, that they would talk about it at the end of September. The end of September rolled around, and she received no calls, so she called them and was informed they had taken a bunch of things that didn't sell to Goodwill. She asked why and was told they couldn't get a hold of her so they just got rid of some things. That was not part of the agreement, we were to pick up whatever didn't sell, and my mom was upset about the whole thing. When her time with them ended, I was supposed to pick up the last item remaining, which was a table and chairs set, and my mom called ahead of time to let then I know I was coming. When I got there, I had to wait over 15 minutes before I was talked to, while the guy at the counter was on his computer, then helping someone, and then back in his computer. When he finally looked up to help me, I told him I had a pick up scheduled, and he said there's no pickups today and turned back to his computer. After a few minutes of more computer stuff, he looked up and just said "you the daughter?" And I just said yes, it was super strange. He then had to call his boss because he didn't know where the table was, and after he was off the phone, he asked what rig I drove. I pointed, and he said "won't fit" and just walked in back. I followed and we loaded the top of the table in the car, and then he couldn't find the rest. I had somewhere to be, and after 30 minutes of him looking for the other pieces, I had to ask if I could come back later. He said he already called his boss and he was on his way down, so I asked if he could call him back and I could just come back another day. Finally I left, and when I came back, the owner was there, I was ignored again for a bit, and again they were very gruff, helped me carry the chairs out to my car and I loaded them up (sidenote: everything fit because I still had the piece of the table from my first trip in my car) and they didn't even say bye or anything, they just walked away and the owner drove off. My mother still has not received payment, and they told her they mailed off a check weeks ago. The check is much lower than it should be, given how much furniture she gave them. I would never recommend these guys to anyone based on their rudeness, disorganization, and lack of...
Read moreMe and a friend were looking around for some furniture and my friend opened and closed a microwave door. An old guy who worked there blocked our path when we tried to get to the next isle and yelled at us for touching the microwave. He then proceeded to follow us through the store. He was an old guy with no teeth and didnât know how to run a buissnes and didnât know anything about costumer service. We bought two chairs and when we got home and sat on them, they fell apart because they leave there furniture out side all the time so the wood got wet and rotted from the inside out. We showed them this and they wouldnât let us return them. Donât...
