In any comic book store, you generally want three things: good selection; a clean and organized space; and knowledgeable, helpful customer service. And if you can't get all of those things, hopefully you get at least two out of three.
At my first visit to Comic Culture this afternoon, I got exactly none of those things
The space is cramped, messy, and utterly disorganized. Flip through any category of back issues and you'll find zero consistency. Fantastic Four jammed in with the Avengers, Aquaman randomly stuffed in with X-Men. There's no organization and it's clear nobody checks or pays attention. The graphic novels are totally scattershot and flopping all over each other. There are just random boxes of loose, broken action figures.
The actual comic book selection is super basic. Marvel and DC of the last ten years. Very little that's interesting, varied, or new.
The guy sitting in the corner when I walked in couldn't be bothered to look up from his phone to greet me, see if I needed help or had questions, or even acknowledge my presence.
I love comics and love supporting local comic shops, especially instead of throwing more money Amazon's way - but not at the cost of basic quality.
I had a terrible experience at Comic Culture, and unless they change their ways, clean up, organize, and hire people who actually know how to help customers, I doubt a second visit would be...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I love going into a comic book store when our favorite comics come out. The few that we buy in person instead of buying online for download are Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Arrow. However, when we come here we can never find what we're looking for. This is because they only purchase very few copies of each new comic in order to get guaranteed business by selling a subscription to you. This tactic is understandable for some businesses, however, we sometimes prefer the variant covers or we're not in town and want to pick it up at the closest comic book store.
When you cannot find the comic book you desire, this place will offer you a couple solutions 1. He can special order it for you 2. You can sign up for a subscription. In April (3months ago) we caved and ordered a specific comic before it came out so we would guarantee it to be there. He then made an excuse that he only ordered enough for his subscription people, then we kept getting excuses. We ended up buying it somewhere else so we could catch up. It's been 3 months and we still have not gotten the issue from him and he also has not offered to give a refund or a different comic book in exchange.
I'm not sure if this is how he prefers to run the business or we keep catching him at the worst times, but until things change I have to take my...
Read moreThe place has comics. But that's about it. Not much for gaming asides HeroClix. The owner offers to order anything you want, but you can do it yourself online cheaper and easier. I ordered a dry erase battle mat from him and he got me the wrong size, despite having pointed out the size I wanted to him on his computer while saying "The biggest one they have, please." I'm not the only one who has had problems. The store has held contests before, and when the contests didn't generate as much income as expected, prizes were withheld - in one instance a mini that was offered for first place was swapped out at the end for a candy bar. That's not even the beginning of the bad business and rip-offs that have gone on there. I will never set foot in that mockery of a gaming store again. Save your money and go to 21st Century in Lansing - that's a real...
