This Office Depot saved my ass.
I came to Pawley's Island for the week on a working vacation. I brought my laptop, but left my charger at home. After learning there are NO office supply stores in Pawley's, I drove 25 mins to the nearest Walmart in search of a charger.
After being ignored by apathetic Walmart employees for way too long, I finally coerced someone to help me. Of all the dozens and dozens of chargers they carry, not a single one fit my laptop.
And it's not like I have some cheapy off-brand. I have a DELL Inspiron.
I headed north in search of the Myrtle Beach Best Buy (which the Walmart guy suggested) -- but I wasn't having any luck on the phone in finding out if they had what I needed. I was desperate, though, and kept driving -- trying to get there before closing time.
I passed this Office Depot on Hwy. 17, made a U-turn and walked in looking haggard and helpless. Someone greeted me right away and asked how he could help. He took me directly to the charger section (so different from my Walmart experience, where the guy gestured in the general direction of the chargers).
He then opened the package that had 5 different sizes and tried each one. The 5th one worked. Next, he suggested we plug my laptop in at his register to be sure it worked. Above and beyond, I'm telling ya.
We weren't sure if it was working, as typically there'll be a little message on my DELL that tells me it's charging. At this point, a manager came over and got involved. He suggested we unplug it and let the battery run down to 95% before plugging it back in.
That did the trick.
But the manager said that if, for any reason, it didn't work once I got it home, that I could bring it back for a full refund -- even though the package was already open.
These guys couldn't have been nicer or more knowledgeable. I was in the store for 30+ minutes, and they made sure I was comfortable while I waited.
I'm mad at myself for even wasting time in Walmart -- a cavernous, inhospitable place that didn't have what I needed ... but made it difficult to even find that out.
I hope I don't leave town without my charger again. But if I do, I'll drive past 100 Walmarts and Best Buys to reach an...

I said no I wanted help in person and even the lady in front of me said you can help her and the woman didn’t want to help… tired of the rude printer people who are always miserable & clearly hate their jobs.. then leave and let people who are happy to be there work.. the older gentleman at the cashier register was very helpful and friendly and helped me find an item to purchase and he apologized for the printer people but I said it’s not your fault but that’s not nice to make me stand there so long with no answer about how long they might be and just walk away when I had to be back at work .. wasted my time I have...
Read moreWhen going into the store there are a couple helpful people but then the other ones seem like they don't want to be bothered. However, the store is very clean and organized. However, I placed an online order through the website. The drawer set I received was broken. I spoke with a customer service representative via telephone, who didn't know how to do her job. She told me that I would receive the item again on that following tuesday (a couple days after I called about item being damaged) and then someone would be by on Wednesday to get damaged item to return it. An office depot truck showed up to my home on monday to try and get the damaged item and I said I don't have the box because you weren't supposed to come until wednesday because the new item with boxes is supposed to be coming on Tuesday. I called on a monday (6 days after the tuesday I was supposed to get the item again) and they said they don't show it being ordered again and now the item is on backorder and there isn't any telling when the item will be available for shipping again. Overall, I'm a very very displeased customer. I just wanted everyone to know the stress that you'll have to deal with when ordering through Office...
