Secret Spot Surf Shop — Local services in Nags Head

So I tried to go into the store and b\c I have a medical condition saying I cannot wear a mask, ( I am following my doctor's orders that it is actually dangerous for me to wear a mask,) the young girl behind the register immediately said, "well you cant shop here" and then proceeded to say that she wears her mask 8 hours a day and it doesnt bother her. Happy for her, but unfortunately I am not as lucky. I felt humiliated and descrimnated against b/c I actually have a condition!! Governor Cooper's orders plainly says that not all people are able to wear a mask, and its ok, but apparently not at this surf shop. I vacation at this beach every year and last year spent $500 there alone and prob would have spent a good amount there this year but will not be back to this store!! The lack of compassion and knowledge of NC's mask ordinance was unbelievable in this store, considering the young man talking to the young lady had his mask hanging down...

Many years ago when the ownership changed, I stopped in the shop and needed a little extra help. I had no expectations they would actually be able to do anything, but they helped me. Big corporations just can’t treat you well individually in many cases. The policies and procedures of very large entities are meant to manage the masses, so often the well-behaved and respectful individual can just end of mistreated. Secret Spot treated me like an individual. I never forgot it and they don’t know it, but I’ve already paid them back financially because of the amount I spent in their store. We got a surf lesson from Liam last Thursday for my teen cousins who had no experience in the ocean or any water sports. One of them is deaf w/ cochlear implants he can’t use in the ocean. Liam took his time demonstrating everything from how the ocean moves to how to surf. He spent additional time coaching my deaf cousin & by the end of the lesson, my cousin was standing while surfing. Liam’s excitement for the sport & encouragement of my cousins was a joy to observe. My cousins had a wonderful time and want to surf more.
