I love my church for so many reasons, but let me just drop a few that matter most: We shouldn’t exist—but we do. Based on what naysayers and conservative Christian voices say, a church like Community UMC Naperville should be impossible. An inclusive, justice-minded, theologically grounded, community-rooted church that actually thrives? Oh honey…this is the anomaly that should be studied in seminaries. But by the grace of God—we’re here. Intentionally diverse. Child-centered. Justice-driven. This is a place that unapologetically uplifts immigrants, supports children in foster care, and refuses to sit on the sidelines when it comes to the marginalized. In 2025, when so many churches are shrinking or splintering, this community reminds me that God is still working through God’s people. Generosity is in our DNA. We give of our time, our talents, and yes—our money. From food pantries and shelters to opening our space for community organizations—CUMC embodies what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ. It feels like home—even without a membership card. I’m not technically a member (yet), but I’m there every week. My kids light up on the way to church and hum the songs all week long. You can’t fake that kind of joy. We moved 133 miles to be here. After surviving extreme homophobia, racism, and authoritarian politics in rural Illinois, my spouse and I knew our family deserved better. This church—this community—is why we’re here. THIS. IS. COMMUNITY.

Read moreThis church and community got me excited about coming back to church.
I stopped going to church a while back because I felt like I was going to “do my time”. I was not spiritually connected and I did not agree with the messages I was hearing from the priests/pastors and church members. The biggest struggle for me was the hypocrisy of other churches teaching “love everyone! …. Except for the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, etc.
I started coming to the contemporary service at Community UMC because I felt like I was missing that “community” aspect in my life and I am happy I did. This church preaches love for ALL, and actually means it. The staff and parishioners are incredibly welcoming and I’ve felt so safe and loved in this space. This is home.
I recommend this church to anyone that wants to be a part of a progressive church, grow in faith, and be part of an...
