We bought a new Fairmont house in 2005. Immediately we had issues. Let me list them. The master bathroom had the hot and cold water reversed, with hot water filling the commode tank, and the shower, tub and sink faucets reversed. The vent pipes were never glued together, and after the first rain, water was pouring from under the bathroom sink. It couldn't be repaired, so I replaced the roof vent with an undersink vent valve, and capped off the vent on the roof. The carpet was finished by an evidently amateur. It started to wrinkle because the guy never used a carpet stretcher, and only partially closed the seams. The trim under the counters looks as though it was cut with a chainsaw, and if someone grabs hold of a counter with their fingers underneath, the come back with splinters or cuts. Under the master bathroom, there was no insulation. I put in insulation that helps, but the bathroom floor stays so cold in the winter, that it's impossible to go in there barefoot. This also causes the bathroom to be much colder than the rest of the house. The factory installed vinyl siding is not properly attached. When the wind blows, it flaps around causing a clapping sound inside the house. The shower head pipes are plastic. Within a year, pin holes developed in the pipes, and the only way to replace them, is to cut holes through the sheet rock and cut the plex pipe clamps, and to do it correctly, replace with a threaded fitting in order screw in a new shower head pipe. The dealer we bought this house from, went out of business within six months of our purchase, so all but the hot/cold water problems were never addressed. Contacting the factory only got a laugh from the lady I talked to. She actually told me, "Big deal, you should have done your homework before buying". With the price we paid for this house, $92,000 in 2005, I would have thought that the manufacturer would take more pride in their work. Honestly, years ago, I owned a couple of cheap single wide mobile homes that had better build quality. I would advise potential buyers to...
Read moreDO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY We purchased a home from a dealer here in Canada, had a hell of a time with them too but this is strictly about the house. Our home was supposed to arrive by the end of May, we received it 6 weeks late in July. Upon receiving our home we soon realized how poorly constructed these houses are. When it arrived the siding was falling off, fixed that ourselves. The microwave and shower door weren’t installed, installed the microwave ourselves, but the shower door when we went to install we found the bottom rail was missing and we immediately contacted the company we purchased through who contacted fairmont for us. It’s now mid September and we still don’t have the parts to install our master bath shower door, and fairmont has no idea when it will be coming in. There was a small hole in the vinyl flooring which can’t be repaired because the “spare” piece of flooring that came with the extra repair parts is the wrong colour/pattern of floor and doesn’t match at all. The trim was literally falling off the walls when it got here, we have had to reattach a bunch of it. Cracks around windows where they meet the trim and the insulation is falling out. The pot lights almost all have the ceiling texture spilling over onto them, the walls also have ceiling texture on them which wasn’t noticeable till they were painted. The door hiding the electrical panel was put into drywall without any sort of reinforcement so it’s falling off the wall. There is no trim on the inside doors on the closets, makes it look very unfinished. Altogether we are very unhappy with our home. Wish we did more research before investing over 216k into it. Please learn from our mistakes and take your money elsewhere! Sincerely a very...
Read moreStrongly regret our purchase of our Fairmont manufactured home.
While the houses may be affordable we have been dealing with so many problems due to poor workmanship and low quality materials.
Here are only a few examples.
Poor workmanship at the plant examples include a mis-wired air exchanger, incorrectly installed furnace causing the furnace to break down (and several parts be replaced), incorrect electrical wiring, connectors to tubs and sinks not even hand tightened, damage to kitchen and bathroom cabinetry from half fast installation, windows improperly installed (frame bent and must push windows out to close), not a single electrical outlet cover plate or light switch plate is installed straight and the discovery of too many screw stripped when trying to fix some items, kitchen shelves not actually supported, bugs pouring in from ceiling moldings, lumps underneath flooring and carpeting we suspect is debris from building process.
Low quality seen within the first 3 months of living in the home included faucets dripping and leaking, kitchen sink rusting, the middle of the sliding door rusting.
For some items, the head office did respond and provide some small reimbursement. However eventually they hide behind claims that everything is tested in the factory, and it's up to the homeowner to ultimately test everything. Clearly, if things were tested in the factory, most of the problems we observed would have been caught.
Unfortunately, on top of all the problems with the house itself the reseller and installer we used did very poor work as well.
Shame on this company for taking advantage of someone's dream for...
