I used to go to The Comic Store as a child when it was in the Market Basket plaza, so I thought I'd try out their new location yesterday, and boy did I regret it.
First of all, finding the location is a hassle. Even finding parking was a laborious task, as the parking lot doesn't seem to have any customer parking, just parking for the staff of the businesses that are in the mill building.
Once parked you have the amazing task of finding where the comic store is in this huge building. There is a directory, but it has the initials for the business instead of actually spelling it out, so that took some figuring out.
Then when you've finally found the business and the signs, you go down a 200 foot corridor lined to the ceiling on both sides with boxes like an unhoused person lives here.
When you finally set foot in the business there's no where to walk, especially if another patron is near you, and there's products stacked in front of other products, like they don't want to sell you anything. Huge boxes in the middle of aisles so you have to walk to the other end of the store in order to see the rest of the aisle. Boxes marked $1 on top of boxes that say "Need to price, do not sell". Maybe don't have product you can't sell taking up walking and/or shelf space, so you can actually move some of your product?
With all of that, you might be thinking, "Oh they must have everything then if they have so much product". Nope. Basic new comic stuff every modern comic store has aren't present here. Hundreds of Marvel + DC titles, but they didn't have the newest Spawn. Seriously? Not just Spawn either. Hardly any Image comics at all on the current comics shelves. I might be willing to endure all of that every week, if they stocked the comics I buy consistently, but when I still have to go to a second store or order online, who would go through all that? Maybe if I lived in the area and could walk there? Maybe? But that seems like a pretty niche scenario, and not a very financially feasible one for a comic...
Read moreThey lost a loyal customer today... I have been going to The Comic Store since they were in the old downtown location and would take an annual trek down to the store for my birthday to spend money on Gundam Model Kits and other action figures. They always had an impressive selection of Model kits even though some of the prices were higher then what you could get them online. I started to notice though that as the years went by, that the prices kept going up and the store itself was becoming more clustered and unorganized even though they had three employees that run the store. Don't bother asking for help though, because they are rude and rather complain about their daily life. They recently had a sale that offered 20% off Gundam, unfortunately I missed it and when I asked if the owner would extend the discount on a $225 Gundam and sell for $180, he said absolutely not, even thought I had cash ready to go. The same Gundam sells for $185 on Amazon Prime with free shipping so they must be doing so well on a Wednesday that they could lose a sale and a long time loyal customer. I have never asked for a discount in my 12 years of coming in and spending over $100 on each trip until today and now I never shall ask again. Prices are ridiculous on action figures which shows with the age of some of the figures being in the same spot for over 10 years. The place is a mess and their customer service is sub par. They still have yet to respond to my Facebook message from over...
Read moreI use to shop at there other store all the time for comics and D&D stuff. I always loved there other shop. I stopped by there new location to check it out and was happy to see that the service and quality have not changed. I'm guessing the bad reviews below are nothing more then people being a**holes or a competing store. The MikeB review reaks of this if that women is such a great blogger then 1 why not say her name and give her blog credit and 2 if she is such a great blogger then she would be writing her own reviews about stores.
When you read enough reviews about places you start to pick up which ones are fake and which ones are legit.
Anyways check the store out for yourself, make your own opinion... it's not like there are many comic book stores to...
