California Produce — Local services in National City

I have been going here for many years, during which time the store has gone through several different owners. No matter who runs the store, the produce is always good and the prices are reasonable.

The reason why I am writing this review now is because I went to the store yesterday to buy 11 pounds of oranges and ran into a problem. Because I paid with Apple Pay, and their hand-held device doesn't show the price, I just paid like I always do, grabbed my receipt without looking at it, like I always do, and toddled home.

Later, I got a notice on my phone that I had been charged $27, instead of the usual $11 or so. I looked at the receipt, and the checker had mistakenly charged me for bell peppers ($2.75 per pound) rather than oranges ($.79). Ouch.

The next day, I took the receipt to the store and quickly explained the situation. I basically expected them to apologize and say that there was nothing they could do about it, which would not have made me happy but would have been understandable.

Nope. They immediately apologized and refunded the difference in price. Fortunately, it was pretty clear that I had not bought 11 pounds of bell peppers, because no one in their right mind would ever do that. These thieves always "accidently" overcharge my family.

In the latest incident the Filipina cashier charged us $4 for two large avocados instead of $2 for two small green avocados.

Maybe you think overcharging $2 isn't that much but we paid $9 for 2 bags of cilantro, oranges, avocados, and more fruits and vegetables; that's an extra charge of more than 20%!

I advise you to watch the cashier and what they charge you like a hawk so they don't, "overcharge you accidently" like they have done to my family on 3 separate visits. In response to the owner:

It's curious how her multiple "mistakes" were mistakes that charge the customer more money every time. I'm not foolish enough to call those separate 3 incidents, "coincidences" rather than "mistakes." Great prices on produce.

Exotic Asian fruits like dragon fruit, star fruit, Jack fruit and mangosteen. Bitter melon, mini bananas (the sweet ones).

This was my first time coming here. Very easy to find, right off the 805 freeway. I noticed how they had some watermelons, oranges and mangos nicely displayed in the front of the store great marketing so when people are walking or driving by it’s makes you want to stop in so that’s exactly how they got my attention. The downfall I wasn’t greeted when I walked inside the store i had to initiate the conversation by asking what the price was on an item that had no pricing posted. The staff only seem to speak unless you say something first and that’s not good at all. Even tho they had lots of fresh looking fruit there were just as many bad looking fruit too. I am not really satisfied with the pricing here especially with not so good looking fruit you should mark it down in price. This is not a place I would recommend to my friends and family and i don’t think I’ll be coming back not worth the drive thank goodness I was in the area. Please provide better customers service when people walk into your store 1st impressions...
