Men's Wearhouse — Local services in National City

I would strongly advise against renting here.

I recently visited this store to rent a suit for my sister’s wedding, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Upon entering, I was abruptly greeted by an employee who loudly asked what I wanted, which immediately felt unwelcoming. I provided the name under which the suits were being rented, and he handed me a form to fill out my height and weight, then asked for my driver’s license, which I gave him.

When he asked if I wanted a “fitted” or “regular” suit, I asked what the difference was and if I could try them on. He told me I couldn’t try anything on and insisted I choose one. I selected “fitted,” but then he abruptly told me I had to go with “regular.” I was confused and asked why I was being given a choice if my answer wasn’t going to be accepted. His tone and attitude were increasingly hostile and unprofessional.

At that point, the manager intervened in an attempt to deescalate the situation. As this happened, the original employee tried to apologize by extending his hand, but by then the interaction had crossed several lines. When I asked him not to touch me, he still put his hand on my shoulder, which felt very inappropriate and confrontational.

Thankfully, the manager took over and was respectful and professional, ensuring I was fitted properly. However, when I returned home, I realized that I never received my driver’s license back. I now have to go through the inconvenience and expense of replacing it.

I had to rent a Tuxedo for an out of state wedding I was attending and waited until the last minute to look for one. I decided to do a Rental as opposed to purchasing. I was extremely nervous about receiving it on time as well as the fact shopping for clothes is my least favorite thing to do. Both women at Men’s Wearhouse who helped me went above and beyond. I had been feeling self conscious but the woman who fitted me set my nerves at ease. When the suit arrived I had changed my mind on one of the articles and the woman who helped me, Alexis not only ordered the different item but went out of her way to call me the day it arrived as I was on a time crunch before I was flying out. I am sorry I couldn’t find the name of the first woman who helped me but if the store would like to reach out I can give the code from the reservation so she can be rightfully recognized. Men’s Wearhouse has been my go to for suits and accessories for at least 3 years now. I’ve always had good customer service (sales reps and tailors) when I’ve shopped at Burbank and Mission Valley. I just moved south and so National City is now the closest to me. The service at this location was such a joke. I was greeted with “can I help you guy” and only became a “buddy” after I bought 2 suits and had tailoring done that visit. Thought I’d give them another chance and went back for tailoring from an online order. Big mistake. I was told by one salesman to bring it in which I did just to be told a day later that I need proof of dry cleaning even though it came straight from their warehouse and still has tags.
