Great new place to eat in an old spot. New restaurant with great food. My wife and I stopped in to give the new restaurant a try. The patio was crowded, but we had no trouble getting a seat inside. Our server, Kenneth, was a nice polite kid who recommended the TyT margaritas, gave me a lesson on how the tequila used enhanced the flavor of the other ingredients. I was like yeah I know margaritas, but was humbled when the margaritas were exactly as described. Great with a little Tajin on the rim. The salsa was kind of unique I still can't quite place it, but it was fantastic, I had my bowl refilled a couple of times. To eat we split the Bonata Platter, really more of an appetizer, my wife was impressed with the presentation and taste. Service was top notch, Kenneth was polite, knowledgeable and had excellent timing. He did also compliment his coworkers and mentioned they all worked as a team. Which was evident as a coworker was walking by and offered to clear unused plates. Service was timely and good, kind of huge in this day of poor service everywhere you go. I hope these guys succeed. So go visit them and support great service and great food.

Amazing! I wasn't expecting much. I am new to Texas and I guess I haven't had good Mexican or Tex-Mex food in a long time, because I just never get my hopes up anymore. But this place did not disappoint. I sat at the bar during lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered a Pineapple Habanero margarita (so yummy and not too spicy). It was delicious! I highly recommend trying. I'm not typically a margarita girl, but I would order 4 more of these. To eat I had the Mahi-Mahi Street Tacos. They were so flavorful and the perfect portion. They were loaded with a mango salsa which complemented the fish very well. Even the rice and beans were packed with flavor. The service was great! The bartender was very attentive. I will definitely be back when I visit Gruene!

After a weekend that was totally out of control, my hubby and I were like, 'Time out, let's take a breather!' So we cruised over to Gruene (which, can I just say, I am completely and totally in love with?) and landed at Tacos & Tequila. I couldn't finish my drink, my margarita was the size of a beach ball and it was not all ice. Freshly made eats, check. Insanely delicious Mexican food, check. Leftovers for 7 whole days, check! It's official, this place is one of our fave Mexican spots in San Antonio - and that's no small feat, considering we've got more Mexican restaurants here than Utah's got churches!

*Response to Owner. Not sure why you are lying, the bar stopped allowing people to order food at 7:30pm on 3/22/25. We arrived at 7:15pm and were told by the hostess to order food at the bar for the self-serve section outside. At 7:31, the bar tender told me that they are no longing taking food orders for the self-serve section.

If food was never allowed in the self-serve section, why did multiple hostesses tell us that we could order at the bar, and the fact that every table outside was covered with food upon our arrival at 7:15pm. We also had friends who had arrived earlier and ordered food from the inside bar, for the self serve section outside.....

There is no definitive or easily accessible website for this restaurant, at least not through Google's services. With no reservation system, 1hr+ waits, inconsistent serving conditions, and an overpriced menu (NYC/LA pricing) is a great forumla for deterring locals that would spend $1500+/yr

The remodeling was duley needed but parking remains an issue and the inside still feels cramped with extremely limited seating. The outside needs to be redesigned with more tables having direct visibility of the stage, and obviously they need to fully service those guests.

A step in the right direction but this business could double their annual revenue with better management/training, realistic food pricing, a larger tequila menu, and a better outdoor layout.

ORIGINAL REVIEW

Very expensive, was unable to order because they closed the kitchen for the outdoor seating (50% of total seating) at 7:30pm on a Saturday night....lol

No waiting service or drink runners for the majority of the outdoor seating either.

This place is forever cursed with horrible ownership. Shame, I'll try again when the next...

I recently visited this restaurant and had a rather disappointing experience. To start, the menu prices listed were incorrect. Items were priced higher than what was stated on the menu, which was frustrating and left me feeling misled.

Additionally, I was surprised to find that there were no vegetarian options available, despite the restaurant claiming to have such choices on their menu. It felt like a missed opportunity for inclusivity, especially for those with dietary preferences.

The service was another major issue. Our server was completely inattentive, and it took a while for us to even get acknowledged. Even when we did manage to get their attention, they seemed distracted and unhelpful. To make matters worse, the food came out at different times. Some of us had our dishes while others were still waiting, creating an awkward experience at the table.

And to top it all off, our water was never refilled, which is such a basic expectation in any dining experience. Overall, I left feeling extremely unsatisfied. I can’t recommend this place based on this visit, and I hope they take the time to improve these aspects...
