Audubon Market — Local services in New Haven

In response to owner comment: I am in no way affiliated with Zoe's. I think it is very telling that they responded in such a way to feedback. Really hope this place takes my thoughts into account, and maybe I will be enticed to try again. Otherwise, will stay far away from here. Sad.

Came in for a bacon egg and cheese at 8:30am.

Grill wasn’t on yet? Needed to wait at least 10 min for them to heat up the grill. The grill they use to make the sausage and egg is the round crepe grill. Consider a dedicated grill for sandwich prep.

No bacon. Settled for a sausage egg and cheese but the sausage looked like someone forgot it in the back of their freezer. Would suggest offering turkey bacon, at least. And in a more appetizing form than a gray freezer-burned patty.

Their chicken cutlet sandwiches are all previously frozen wrapper bag sandwiches (think white castle burgers / microwaveable sandwiches). If you don't believe me, look in the far-right section of their deli meat case just past the macaroni salad.

The refrigerator section was unorganized and missing some common items I would have expected to see (i.e., Philadelphia cream cheese)

Cashier tried to ring me up for the special (sandwich inc coffee), when I did not have any coffee order. Saved myself $1 by pointing it out.

Audubon Market, located at 59 Grove Street in New Haven, is a welcome addition to the downtown area. Opened in late September 2024, this compact yet well-stocked market has transformed a former smoke shop into a convenient spot for quick bites and everyday essentials. 

Inside, you’ll find a diverse range of offerings: fresh fruit bowls, protein shakes, waffles, crepes, sandwiches, and smoothies. Beyond prepared foods, the store also stocks frozen meals, cleaning supplies, pet food, and toiletries—making it a handy stop for both locals and visitors. 

The store is owned by Farooq Alwajih, who also operates Mist Tobacco & Convenience nearby, as well as other local businesses. Despite its small size, the market is thoughtfully organized and clean. One customer, a Yale architecture student, noted that the staff seem to genuinely care about the store and its patrons. 

Audubon Market is open daily, with extended hours from 7 AM to midnight Monday through Saturday, and 9 AM to 10 PM on Sundays.

Amazing addition to to the area. There have been many small markets that have come up lately in New Haven however, I will say that this has the widest selection and very kind staff. I was really surprised that they also have food, including crêpes and waffles, which are quite tasty.
