St. Mary Church of Blessed Michael McGivney Parish — Attraction in New Haven

In 1882 Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, the largest Catholic fraternal service organization in the world, at this magnificently beautiful gothic style church. Located near the grounds of Yale University, this church has a rich history, and even contains the crypt of and monument to Father McGivney. We ran a Knights if Columbus bus trip, from the Philadelphia and Bucks County Pennsylvania area to walk in the footsteps of our founders here. The trip was well attended including many knights and there wives, Legacy of Life volunteers, and members of the clergy. A beautiful Catholic Church with a fantastic history. It has just been completely renovated. In 1882, Father Michael McGivney, the Pastor of St Mary's founded the Knights of Columbus in the basement of the Church, along with a small group of parishioners. Father McGivney founded the KofC to protect the widows and orphans of the Parish. The KofC was founded on the 3 principles of Charity, Fraternity & Unity. The Knights of Columbus has grown since then to over 2 million members world-wide. Father McGivney was just Beatified and his Mass of Thanksgiving was held at the Church on 10/31/2020. Love this church! Absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere is so positive. The only complaint I do have to mention which is no fault of the church itself is that there are A LOT of crying babies during Sunday mass. That's already annoying by itself but what makes it worse is that most of the parents don't even bother going outside to calm their crying babies down so the entirety of the mass will be partially interrupted by the annoying crying.
