I would like to first start by saying I am not a person who leaves reviews, for anything really. I had to create an account just to leave this with you. But I feel it was such egregious behavior that for me to not create an account and leave a cautionary tale would be irresponsible of me and a disservice to you. Today I was shopping at a local thrift store in Joliet at the MorningStar mission treasure chest. I was looking to purchase a $30 used hand, vacuum cleaner. On it, it had a bright yellow sticker that said all sales are final. Any thrifter knows that you always test electronics prior to buying them, because whether out of lack of knowledge or just the need to move inventory, a lot of electronics purchased through thrift stores do not work properly, which is why 95% of them have electronics testing sites. This place did not have one, so I asked the blonde-haired manager if I could test this special on a small section of carpeting. She immediately had an attitude about the fact that I wanted to test the electronics prior to purchase, and then I simply asked you, “Don’t take returns if this does not work correctly?” Why would I not test this prior to buying it? And at that point, she became irate. In an effort to show full transparency at that point, I said, “This is bullshit.” To which she replied, “Your money is no good here. Get out now.” As I was voluntarily leaving, she called you, “Large gentleman,” to support me out even though I was leaving of my own volition without making a scene. She then proceeded to yell and scream and tell me she was calling the police, to which I replied, “OK, I will wait outside for them, and we can let them decide. You guys have cameras, correct?” At the end of the day, everything that I’m saying should’ve been recorded on the store camera. $30 for a used Bissell is a lot to begin with, and then to not let me test it and treat me like I’m a jerk because I want to know if it works before spending the money is unnecessary and incredibly rude, not to mention embarrassing, considering she was quite literally yelling at me in front of other customers. As a manager, her behavior was utterly inappropriate. I’m sorry that times are rough right now and finances are tight. I can’t afford a $30 purchase on a vacuum that doesn’t work. I’m sure some of you reading this can relate to that. I would avoid this place at all costs. The two goons then followed me out to the parking lot and tried to intimidate me. Luckily, another patron of the store came out and told me I was right and that it wasn’t worth it. Just make a call. I decided she was right. I contacted the main store in New Lenox and I am contacting the actual mission itself to try to shed light on the way that this manager behaves. Because at the end of the day again, it should all be on camera to verify what I’m saying or to make me look like a liar one way or the other. I don’t think I would be doing all of this if I was just making up a story. If you love drifting the same as I do, I would highly recommend Saint Vincent de Paul, two blocks from there. The staff there is incredible, friendly, and very helpful. Or the MorningStar mission does have another treasure chest right between Lennox and Mokena. They also have a wonderful staff in a very nice store. Until that blonde manager is replaced from the location on Jefferson, I would recommend staying far, far away. I’m sorry if my babble this is my first review as I said, I was just so appalled I had to let you know what you could...
Read moreThis used to be a great place to bring the family but I've found that some of the employees "reserve" items they consider to be of some worth for their special friends and customers. Chris, who claimed to be a manager, would not accept my payment for a piece of furniture until another woman looking at it decided whether she wanted it or not. Apparently talking over the phone while looking at an item is enough reason to reserve the item, at least to Chris. In any event this is about the third time I've run into some shady practices where an item was not priced but on the sales floor and when I've been told to return just like that the item was sold. One time sure maybe but it seems the story is too well rehearsed and well three times... you're employees are...
Read moreI loved coming here but this past visit I was left very disappointed.
I found a nice travel bag but there was no price tag on it. We searched the bag and the floor for a tag but didn’t find anything. I took the bag to the counter and said I couldn’t find a tag and the worker immediately said “I don’t have the authority to price items”. Right after another worker came over and said “Yeah we can’t sell this. Even if you found a tag on the floor we couldn’t use that” and took the bag and tossed it in a basket behind her.
Why not have a system in place to price these items that pop up with no tag? Do you not want to sell these items? I went back the following day to find the bag but it was nowhere to be seen.
Probably...
