The attached Preservation Hall show brochure specifically recommends you stop by the Toulouse Theatre’s lobby bar for a drink after the show, so I was surprised the bartender was so salty and uninviting when we did just that. There was a ticketed comedy show already taking place in the main room but the lobby bar was open and not part of that. After getting a drink, the bartender was condescending and asked why we were still there since you can take it anywhere in New Orleans. It’s not as though we were belligerently disrupting the comedy show - behavior which I’m familiar with and agree would warrant his response. The show itself was in another room so it’s not like we were trying to freeload. I can’t speak to the venue itself but this level of hostility unexpected and out of character with from the rest of my experience while visiting. Read moreWhen I walked in, I knew that I had been to this venue before but it had been awhile. Turns out, it was the prior location of One Eyed Jacks. During COVID, new owners took over and now we have the wonderful Toulouse Theatre. I had the ultimate pleasure of meeting the new owner, Greg Lucas, who was extremely gracious and welcoming. It felt as if he and his wife were welcoming us into their home. The bartender was on point and quick with the drinks and they have mezcal! The venue is spacious and clean including the ladies restroom. And the crowd that was there the night that I went were quintessential NOLA folks; locals mingling with one another, singing, drinking and just having an amazing time not on funky Bourbon or crowded Frenchmen but at the Toulouse Theatre. It's a must...

The intimate atmosphere of the venue allowed us to feel fully immersed in the music, with every note lifting our spirits. Wendell Brunious and the gifted band played with such passion and mastery, it was as if the music itself was anointed.
Preservation Hall beautifully embodies the soul of New Orleans’ rich musical history while offering an authentic and profound experience. If you’re in town and wish to experience the finest live jazz, this sacred place is an absolute must. We will...
