Dr. Amar blends humanism with the keenest diagnostic abilities and treatment recommendations, what a brilliant and kind practitioner. She also takes so many forms of insurance and has the most delightful and helpful staff members (shout out to Leanne!). She also has Saturday hours, I tell you she's the unicorn of doctors. I found out about her on my building's FB wall (two neighbors were raving about her upon a third asking for a recommendation). I've been to her twice for ankle sprains and my sister just went to her after injuring her foot. In our experiences, she was so on point with diagnosis as well as her anticipation of how long we'd experience pain and instructions regarding what would help, etc. The first time I saw her, she gave me the most minimally painful and perfectly placed cortisone shot, which relieved me of debilitating pain, thank goodness for this doctor.
Hot tip: She usually takes walk-ins if you need to come in right away (call first) and has an x-ray machine on site. This can minimize your covid or flu contraction risk and mitigate the extremely long wait at an urgent care facility... fewer people will be sick with transmissable respiratory illnesses in a foot doctor's waiting room is my theory. Obviously if it's an extreme emergency, the ER is your best bet but I'd certainly try Dr. Amar before going to urgent care for diagnosis of a foot or ankle injury.
Dr. Amar is very thorough. She listens intently and compassionately to your backstory and description of symptoms and then she's detailed regarding her diagnosis and instructions. This last injury is more severe than my first sprain and she sent me for an MRI when no fractures were found based on the extremity of the swelling and the pain level I described. I have gone to other podiatrists for various foot injuries and conditions and never have I experienced such exceptional care.
Regarding the wait time (in reference to the only negative comments made among otherwise stellar reviews): Wait time was indeed long the first time I went but my sister and I were seen within 15 minutes of arrival the other times we came in and regarding that first wait: 1) I'd made the appointment that morning so I was relieved to be squeezed in and it would have been exponentially longer had I gone to urgent care or an ER. 2) She takes her time with everyone and really goes above and beyond. She cares so much about each patient. I don't mind waiting a little if it means I am receiving such excellent care. I think it's clear by my long-winded, vomitus review that I'm a huge fan of this masterful doctor.
One note: there is a flight of stairs leading into the Prospect Park West facility but I once went to her Church Ave location and there were no stairs there so ask when you call and they will advise you of the most accessible location if your mobility is...
Read moreListen, the one time I interacted with Dr. Amar she was extremely kind and sweet. But this office is so thoroughly mismanaged and horrendously run that I will not be coming back. First of all, the office itself is dirty and dingy. Secondly, my experience with scheduling was beyond disrespectful. After my initial appointment, I was told to schedule a follow up so the office could contact my insurance company to verify orthotic coverage (not sure why they wouldnât have bothered to do this beforehand but I gave them the benefit of the doubt). I called before my second appointment to confirm theyâd verified coverage only to find out theyâd never even bothered to contact my insurance company, so we moved my appointment out a week. I ended up needing to call to reschedule that one a few days before because I was sick, and when I did the person I spoke to was incredibly rude for no apparent reason, like I was imposing on her day by asking her to do her job. Finally, after a month, itâs time for my follow up appointment. I didnât bother to call again to ask about insurance this time but I shouldâve because, despite the fact that I got a reminder text about my appointment the day before, I arrived to discover that the office had decided to close and cancel all appointments that day apparently without bothering to alert their patients. I took time out of my morning and missed work, losing out on money, just to be treated like I donât matter. As I said, I will not be returning, and I will be instructing everyone I know to stay far away from Dr....
Read moreAs you enter the dilapidated podiatrist's office, the stench of decay overwhelms you, a testament to years of neglect and poor sanitation. The reception area is a chaotic mess, with outdated magazines scattered haphazardly and the furniture showing signs of wear and tear.
The receptionist barely acknowledges your presence, engrossed in a loud personal conversation on her cellphone. She finally gestures for you to fill out a stack of forms that are faded and smeared, making them nearly illegible.
After what feels like an eternity, you're led into a dingy examination room where Dr. Amar awaits. Her demeanor is cold and dismissive as she hurriedly examines your feet, barely acknowledging your concerns or questions.
With a callous disregard for your well-being, Dr. Amar begins aggressively pushing for unnecessary treatments, insisting on procedures that seem invasive and excessive. When you express hesitation or seek clarification, she brushes off your concerns, failing to fully explain the potential side effects or risks involved.
Attempting to obtain your medical records becomes a Kafkaesque nightmare, as the staff stumble through outdated paperwork, oblivious to your rights under HIPAA law. They insist on a referral for access, displaying a shocking ignorance of basic patient rights and privacy regulations.
Leaving the office, you're left feeling violated and exploited, vowing never to return to such a nightmarish den of incompetence...
