I have been going here since they opened. Ohran (first chair) is great and so is everyone else. I’ve sat with a few of the other barbers when it’s been busy or someone was out of town, etc… All of the Artisan Barbers have given me a great haircut which I can’t say of another place in the neighborhood. I think this's a credit to Ohran and his selection practices for higher skilled, more refined Barbers. I appreciate their capability and knowledge of using scissors where and when appropriate. Again I cannot say that of another shop previously frequented. Ohran and Snoopy help me stay respectable for my family trimming my bushy eyebrows and ears. I really like the straight razor clean up on the back of my neck. I think they just finally raised their prices in Jan 2025. It’s a necessity with the higher cost of everything. I usually tip them well with the extra attention they give my middle aged stray hairs.
I did get a shave once sometime after the mask mandate was lifted. It was nice but I wasn’t super happy with it as my skin was irritated. HOWEVER I’m certain that had to do with me having not shaved for a couple weeks. My face was dry and I’m prone to patchy bits of eczema which would’ve made any kind of a perfect shave unlikely. Overall the shave was a great experience I would recommend if you have the time and they’re...
Read moreThe owner of the shop shaped up my undercut. He did a nice job. However, he asked me (female, 35 ) several inappropriate and probing questions related to my race, sexual orientation and even my fitness routine. Despite my professional directness — but by the time he asked me about my sexual orientation — I had to tell him point blank I wasn’t answering his invasive inquiry.
It’s disappointing that adult men still approach women in their places of business with such audacity. I’m a woman simply trying to get a shape up.
I’ve been trying different barbers while in the city, and unfortunately, this kind of interaction hasn’t been uncommon. NY needs to do better (and so does the owner).
As soon as I left the shop, I texted my regular barber back home letting him know how much I miss him and thanking him for his professionalism and kindness.
I don’t expect a barber to have such an inappropriate bedside manner. It is very disappointing. I just wanted a good shape up. It is disappointing that women still have have to brace such disrespectful and invasive lines of questioning when going about their day. Shout out to my...
Read moreI went in for a beard trim however I asked if the person doing the trim would wear the mask. The response I got was quite Trumpian as the owner(?) yelled at me 'no masks, we don't wear masks, we are done with masks". I explained that I am immune compromised but the big mouth kept rattling on quite arrogantly. In a service business this guy is a clown, No wonder people say the place has terrible vibes. Good thing there are many other places real close.
Since I originally posted this review the owner has asked me to rescind my one star rating. I will not because what I have stated is true.
Once again the owner is lying. They never gave me anything free nor did I ask for anything free. These people...
