I'd written a review for this place once before, but it seems to have disappeared. So here is my second attempt.
I found this place to be very interesting in that it has an incredibly wide selection of just about anything you could possibly want, even higher-end products that I have been unable to find here in the Bronx until now. That was a pleasant surprise.
But only the selection is wide. Not the aisles, by any stretch of the imagination. Manoeuvring about was a nightmare, and I almost gave up twice. I'm glad I didn't ultimately because I found some really great deals. The prices on many items are more competitive than other places, whilst other items can be obtained for less someplace else. It's just a matter of doing one's research and taking the time.
I loved the fresh bread and pastries, as well as their seafood counter. I was rather pleasantly surprised as well to find that they sell real crabmeat and even fresh sushi!
The line is incredibly long, but this is not as daunting as it might at first appear. It feeds into numerous registers and the staff are super quick and efficient so that you get through the line surprisingly more quickly than in most other places I've visited here in the Bronx.
For drivers, there is ample parking. For pedestrians, the bus stop is right in front of the store, which is marvellously convenient, as that is my preferred mode of transport. I work and play in Manhattan so can hardly see the point to owning a car.
The staff behind the counters are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The floor staff, who are usually busy stocking or whatever else it is that they do, are not overly solicitous and I believe some probably see the customers as merely a nuisance. But they are friendly if you address them and helpful if you ask them for it. So that's something.
My one and only concern would be the prices on their meat and poultry items, which are far from competitive with other Bronx prices that I've encountered. I felt as though I were shopping in Manhattan again. The upside of that, however, is that it is all of such high quality that it makes the extra money worth spending.
In conclusion, I believe that I will be making this place one of my regular shopping destinations. It's definitely worth the minor inconveniences and the somewhat higher prices. Particularly when juxtaposed against the numerous sale priced...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst of all I've been going to this super market since I moved to the Bronx 4 years ago and I have never had an issue until today. There's a person in the front that checks bag I've left my back pack and larger bags with them before but today I only had a small tote bag for grocery shopping with a bottle of cough medicine that I had purchased from the rite aid across the street. Upon entering I was told to check my bag I told the guy "this is my shopping bag and pointed out that there are other people around me with their own reusable shopping bags" and he responded that I still needed to check my bag and once I was done at check out I could take my items back to bag check and pack them there. This was super unnecessary and inconvenient and I told him that made no sense and I would not check my shopping bag as I use it to shop like everyone else. I walked off and continued to shop, at this point I was over it and didn't think too much about it I walked over to the register paid for my items packed them in my bag and began to leave. The man then rushed at me while I was leaving and said "next time you better check your bag". At this point given his tone and how he said it to me I was very curt and I angrily told him that I have had no problem in the past checking my back pack or large capacity bags as I know that's protocol for the store, but this is a practically empty reusable shopping with one item that I have a receipt for and for him to talk to me the way he did was uncalled for and I respectfully was not gonna check a bag that I have seen other customers using in the shop! Not to mention they only ask men to check their bags! I know the point of bag check is to prevent theft but a woman could just as easily steal from the store! Its absolutely absurd that he would need to approach me again with such attitude! Needless to say I will never shop at this supermarket again as this was totally unprofessional, and for future customers and to better the customer experience at cherry valley I implore management to reconsider how they approach bag checks as only asking men to check their bags is a bias and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI stop at this supermarket almost every day after work and aleast twice on my days off because it is the closest market to me, when I went to make a purchase today I was stopped at the door because I wasnt wearing a face mask, when asked to speak to a mrg a employee who works in th front of the store came to the door, I know she is not the store manager because I'm there almost everyday, so ask for the store manager again and i was then told he having a meeting with corporate but I knew that was a lie, so then i asked to speak with there corporate supervisor also then... she responded and said that she cannot bother him,I asked her if you guys are not letting customers in because we are not wearing face mask why dont you supply then to customers as they shop.. a small price to pay to stay in business in my eyes, as I said already i shop there almost everyday and spend about $30 everytime, she told me they were giving then out yesterday which I knew was another lie because I was they picking up groceries for dinner that night!!!, I told her I will wait then, they had me outside for about 15min before I gave up... I work in a supermarket as a store manager and if corporate knew I wouldn't speak to a paying customer they wouldn't be happy with me at all, bad customer service and I will never attempt to spend my money in any supermarket affiliated with them again... especially when this crisis...
