I want to echo and support Nicole because experiences like this are simply unacceptable, and businesses need to be held accountable for how they treat their customers. When you trust a local salon with your hair.....especially for something as delicate as a faux loc takedown. You expect professionalism, skill, and honesty.

Instead, what happened here was a complete breakdown of those basic expectations. The stylist changed the agreed-upon price in the middle of the service, putting the customer in a difficult position when she was already halfway through the process. This kind of bait-and-switch tactic is unfair and unethical. Customers should be able to trust that the price they were quoted is the price they’ll pay.

Worse still, after the service was completed, the customer discovered her natural hair had been cut off in multiple places. This is not a minor mistake, it’s a serious error that can take months or even years to recover from. When a customer brings this kind of damage to the owner’s attention, the response should be immediate accountability and a genuine effort to make things right. Instead, the owner refused a refund and only offered a discount on a future service, which is not a real solution after such harm has already been done.

This is about more than just a bad haircut. It’s about respect, trust, and the responsibility businesses have to their clients. If a mistake is made, especially one that causes lasting damage, the business must take ownership and do everything possible to correct it....not just offer a token discount. We deserve better service, honesty, and care from the places we choose to support. I hope this review helps others make informed decisions and encourages this business to do better...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Coumba African Hair Braiding Shop nestled at 430 West Lenox Avenue in NYC, NY, and let me tell you, it was a remarkable experience from start to finish. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warmth and welcomed into a pristine environment that exuded cleanliness and comfort.

The braid technicians at Coumba are not only skilled artisans but also incredibly friendly and accommodating. My box braids, expertly crafted by Ms. Soda, were an absolute masterpiece. Each braid was meticulously woven with precision, resulting in a stunning look that surpassed my expectations. Ms. Soda's attention to detail and dedication to her craft truly shone through in the finished product.

One of the most delightful aspects of Coumba African Hair Braiding Shop is their commitment to providing exceptional service at a remarkably reasonable price. Despite the high quality of their work, the cost of my braids was incredibly affordable, making it a fantastic value for the level of expertise and care provided.

Moreover, sitting in the clean and inviting atmosphere of the shop only added to the overall enjoyment of my experience. Coumba African Hair Braiding Shop truly understands the importance of creating a welcoming environment where customers can feel relaxed and pampered while getting...

I’ve been to this shop almost three times. The first time I went it was $170 for my hairstyle and I loved it and the woman who did it was very kind and she braided very well and it wasn’t tight. When I scheduled for my next visit I specifically told them that I wanted her to do my hair again and they told me she’s not good with cornrows. Which I did not believe. They also had me pay the same $170 price which I told them was not fair when the first hairstyle took a lot more time and that was box braids. I gave in and I paid it. With that stylist she braided so tight and it hurt really bad. Now the third time I again specifically said I wanted that same first woman to do my hair and it was agreed on the phone because I was getting the same first initial hairstyle. When I got there they could have cared less about my requests. Because I gave them push back they all started talking in their language and wanted to charge me $200. Now how are you trying to charge me $30 extra for the same hairstyle only a few months ago. Well there’s no reason to be treated this way when there are so many braiding shops in the area.I kindly left and went to another shop. I’ll never go back there again. I find them to be extremely rude with their attitude and trying to over charge me because they’re trying to...

One of the best hair braiding experiences I’ve had in a long time. I got boho knotless with synthetic base and human hair extensions for $200. I was a walk in on a weekday. She was extremely patient with me as I don’t know colors super well (I wanted a calico/highlighted look) and she didn’t judge me as we figure out the colors I wanted. She offered me water and checked in with me if I needed a break or fresh air. She also prepared and stretched the hair beforehand so we didn’t have to take breaks. The whole thing took maybe 4 hours with two women working at the same time. She even laid my edges in a cute curly style! I got so many compliments and can’t wait to come back because this is the first calming braiding experience I’ve had in a while!

I originally planned to visit another salon, but to my surprise, it was closed. On my way back to the train station, I came across Coumba African Hair Braiding Salon and decided to step in out of curiosity to ask about their pricing. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and attended to with such professionalism that I immediately decided to get my hair braided. The experience was fantastic. The service was efficient, and despite being extremely tender-headed, I had no discomfort at all. My hair looks and feels amazing, and the confidence boost it gave me is priceless. I’ll definitely be returning because they did an outstanding job. Thank you, ladies—exceptional work!

The reviews brought me to Coumba and let me tell you she and her team did not miss. I have very short hair but it’s long enough to catch. They finished my hair in 3 1/2 hours. Coumba even asked me about the tension of the braids as she went along. I was provided with a very pleasant atmosphere and smiles. Plus, since leaving the store not one braid has fallen out. If I could give 10 stars I would! Don’t hesitate run and get your hair braided by Coumba and her team. Disclaimer: My hair is extremely curly and shrinkage is real so the picture doesn’t justify the length of my hair 🄓😩🤣
