I discovered Etta Salon by chance when I was looking for a new salon to go to on Yelp, and I am SO glad I decided to make an appointment. I have been to many salons and stylists in my day, and I can confidently say that Etta Salon is the best salon I've been to in many years. It was very easy to get to (only a five minute drive from my apt, YAY!) and from the moment they open the door (they take your temperature and ask you to spray the bottom of your shoes before entering, and once you enter you must sanitize your hands) they are welcoming and friendly, and the overall vibe/atmosphere is so chill, calm, relaxing, and just so ideal. I love that this salon is small, it makes the whole experience much more personal and relaxing. The interior is really cool and the salon is extremely clean.
I got my hair cut by Bri, who is absolutely amazing! She was so nice to me, very friendly and understanding. I admit, I have bad social anxiety and its hard for me sometimes to talk to new people and feel comfortable talking. Bri made me feel super comfortable and was super patient with my anxiety! Hahaha. She was a sweetheart. She listened to me when I told her about my hair issues, concerns, and goals. I felt 100% comfortable letting her do her thing and give me a haircut that would look really good. She is really smart, knows what she's doing, knows what looks good and how to make you not only LOOK good, but FEEL good too! I absolutely LOVE my hair and how it came out. I feel SO much better now and I feel my confidence coming back. I HATED my hair before Bri cut it and now I'm loving my hair again. I WISH I would have discovered this salon sooner to be honest! I will definitely be returning and I highly recommend this salon! Easily the BEST salon...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to get my haircut with Alex or Mars and was always very happy with the results. They both listened carefully, asked questions, and used scissors to ensure the length was right, always checking in with me along the way.
Unfortunately, Mars is no longer working here and Alex was unavailable, so I thought a simple clean-up would be fine and booked an appointment with senior stylist Leonor. I showed her a picture, explained that I just needed a clean-up of the short part of my haircut, and repeated several times that I did not want it too short and definitely did not want my scalp to show.
A good hairstylist, if unsure, should ask more questions, request additional pictures, and if using a trimmer, start at a higher level while checking in with the client each time. A senior stylist should also be able to imagine what the original length and style would have looked like if only one month had passed since the last cut. Instead, Leonor immediately used the trimmerāfirst at level 3, then again at level 1āwithout confirming with me, which left one part of my hair extremely short, almost bald in spots. When I expressed my concern, she told me it was my fault for not communicating clearly, even though I had emphasized multiple times that I only wanted a clean-up.
She tried to help make it look better, but the damage was already done. At the end, I was still...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited Etta Salon for the first time yesterday after my regular stylist moved away from New York. I was a bit worried about getting a haircut after being in lockdown for so long, but I couldn't stand my overgrown mop anymore. I researched a number of places before settling on Etta; I chose them for their small size (which minimizes the number of clients they can let in at once) and the numerous COVID-19 safety measures they'd posted on their website, followed by prices and proximity to me.
Etta Salon put me at ease from the get go. When I arrived for my appointment, Kara (my stylist) was busy with another client. The door was locked; she came out to greet me, then explained that the waiting area was closed for safety and invited me to sit on the bench outside. When it was my turn, I was asked to use hand sanitzer upon entering, then Kara took my temperature with a sensor thermometer and even sprayed the bottom of my shoes with alcohol. Of course, all stylists and customers must also wear masks.
She was lovely, professional, quick, easy to talk to, and did exactly what I asked for. I'll be returning to Etta and would recommend the salon to...
