Love this neighborhood spot. The atmosphere is great for whatever adventure you choose. Valentines day date at the bar, friends dinner at a table, or dinner with family from out of town in the cute backyard, there's something for everyone. The early-ish start to dinner is also great for parents. By the time we leave with our toddler, we see a wave of other folks come in at 630/7.
The staff (though limited to 2 visible ppl at a time at most) are very friendly, as most of them I've seen there since 2021 (solid tenure in food service theae days). They probably could use an extra hand, but we've never had to wait more than a sec for a seat (resy is straightforward there), long for food, or gotten the wrong food after going there many times a year.
The food is very good. Maybe not 5 star. I sometimes have to make myself be objective while judging the food, b.c. the setting, music (they randomly have a dope new jack swing and early 90s R&B playlist) and memories there make the food taste better than what we're getting and for the price. Food is very good, but maybe not the best Italian food or specialty pizza (though it's tasty!!) For the price. Some of the pizzas are hit or miss. Some are the best I've had! Others have seemed like the veggies were either undercooked or thrown on top after the pizza was nearly finished. The best I've had there is their cod and mash potatoes. The drinks are great too. I'd go for just drinks there if I...
Read moreSo I’ve been three times in two weeks-alone each time: one for take-out, one seated outside in front and once on the back patio. Speaking of the patio, someone from Vogue recently gave a review, which was good for publicity, but didn’t share the details about what makes Bar Camillo a gem. The staff is friendly, inclusive, and hospitable with a hip, modern Italian vibe. Meantime the menu is rooted in tradition-the ancient style “pinsa” or Roman pizza with fermented dough and traditional toppings, eggplant parmigiana (which tasted just like my nonna’s or as good as any I’ve had in Italy) and traditional pastas. Some innovative cocktails at reasonable prices, a selection of good wines and beers and you really can’t go wrong here. Take-out lasagna was delicious and still crisp on the edges. I showed up in the rain and asked for a martini while I waited, which they got a kick out of. The sidewalk seating is stylish with covered separates “covid booths” and a couple of high-top tables. Patio also dent cozy and is mostly enclosed with a fabric ceiling, plants, and a natural wood and brick vibe. Come here for a cocktail and a snack (I recommend a negroni and the anchovies in buttered bread-the famed Recca anchovies of Sicily) or split a pinsa and a glass of wine with a friend, chat up the friendly staff, and plan a trip to Italy ASAP. Read moreWas so excited to see this spot open up down the street from me. I’m a huge fan of their other spots, especially Locanda Vini e Olli, and this place does not disappoint. We stopped in on Friday around 6 and grabbed a spot at the bar. The vibe was cozy, warm, familial and chic. The bartender (didn’t catch his name) was great-welcoming and helpful. We both got one of their Negroni’s and shared the sardine appetizer and a pizza. It was all fantastic. Considering it was opening weekend, a Friday, and Valentine’s Day, the place got pretty crowded by the end of our dinner. The staff handled it beautifully and nothing seem frazzled or rushed. We can’t wait to come back for the drinks, the pizza,...
