First of all, I truly cannot say enough great things!! We had our wedding here in late June and it was absolutely the perfect venue. Our guests still refer to it as "magical". After scouring just about every option in New York (I'm an obsessive researcher) a friend recommended Arlington Place. Upon our first visit we booked it on the spot - no contest. The space is a dream- so thoughtfully renovated with every last attention to detail and utmost quality (no expense was spared). Maintaining all original historic charm, and then some, the owner Liz has carefully chosen local art to add a complimentary touch of modern edge to the walls. The space is perfect for an event our party, offering a different atmosphere depending on which level; We started with a cocktail hour on the main/parlor level accompanied with stand up bass and pianist (piano in the room), the backyard was used for the ceremony, the kitchen and den were prefect for a buffet dinner and main bar, then we had everyone together for speeches/first dances in the cellar which felt so special like a speakeasy. It was perfect later on when guests could choose which area of the house fit their mood- downstairs a DJ and dance party, backyard fresh air, parlor and kitchen perfect for intimate conversation. Liz could not have been any more helpful with all of the planning as well- regularly talking my mother and I through all details, often adding extremely useful guidance and tips. Her recommendations on catering/menu were excellent (we went with Pies and Thighs- a real crowd pleaser!), and we brought in our own alcohol which Liz helped to source and create simple cocktail ideas. She had a fantastic recommendation for the musicians, which came in at a better price than what I had found elsewhere and we couldn't have been more pleased- Adam was so easy to work with, and even played a bit longer than paid as he said he was having fun. We had him play guitar for the ceremony and (as mentioned) piano/stand-up bass for cocktail hour. Liz actually ended up ordaining us and went to the trouble to contact our best friends and siblings for personal insight, a really nice touch. She even helped to organize an after-party at Bedford hall, which I would highly recommend as they are within close walking distance and a very charming spot for the late partiers (there's always at least a small crew looking to carry on the fun!), or just to grab a drink while you stay here. My family and I also stayed here for a few nights surrounding the wedding and it was an incredible experience- felt like having your own private Brownstone. Ambyr, the innkeeper, is so super lovely- easy to talk to and does not get in your way, she makes you feel comfortable at home. I had my friend doing flowers and they wanted to plan a day ahead and create garlands for the railings in front and out back- Ambyr was very accommodating to this. Getting ready in the big room with in-suite bathroom was perfect, it allowed sitting space for my girlfriends/family to hang out and just spent a nice morning together the day of the wedding. I could basically write a novel about how much I love this place and the experience of hosting an event here- could you tell? ;) Very genuinely, don't think twice it is so special and everyone...

Read moreA big big thank you to Ambyr and Liz for making us feel so welcome at Arlington Place and helping to make our first trip to New York so memorable. This is a beautifully restored brown stone building with an elegance and energy all of its own - super artwork adorns the walls - and great to have access to a piano I could play. Room 2 was super, spacious, comfy, great for our daughter to also stay over for a few days. Airconditioner worked well, blackout shutters at lovely stained glass windows ensured a good night sleep, breakfast was delicious and uniquely prepared and nice to sit out in the patio area. Ambyr made gluten free muffins and pancakes and especially catered for individual needs and tastes. Yes the staircase creaked but this is a restored wood building and other guests were careful to minimising noise. Once you were aware you must ask for things like clean towels and things don't happen automatically it was fine to adapt to. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and we did feel really included and at home. Subway really close and easy travel to all sightseeing and exploring, we loved that it was calmer and quieter than staying in the hubbub of Manhattan city centre, it also meant we had fun exploring more of Brooklyn as well. Would...
