Disappointed. I met with someone at the financial empowerment center in 2018. I worked with someone who understood my situation, and I got great advice. It put me on a great path to financial security, I went back today, confident that enough staff member could help me.

I was given terrible advice. I was told to move back to my hometown and live with my (elderly, retired) parents. I am a grown adult, who works, five to six days a week. I was encouraged to work more, work harder, give up the few luxuries I have, and pull myself up by my bootstraps. I felt judged for not being rich. I’m disappointed—this doesn’t seem in line with what I experienced before. Worse, I didn’t ask for help with my budget, and I didn’t ask for feedback about the way I live my life now, either. Like so many things, I’ll have to figure this out on my own, but after giving my personal time over to this already, I shouldn’t have to.

Some time after leaving this review I was asked to review my meeting via email, via their service. I asked that they refrain from contacting me again. A manager called and left a voicemail. She asked to talk about my experience. I returned the call--and never heard back.

You do not have to risk your safety (which was recommended!) or have several side hustles to be financially secure. Do not listen to the...

I wish I could leave 0 here... Very unrealizable and unprofessional people. I found this organization at IRS website for the tax preparation, did a virtual appointment, - followed all steps and what? At the day of appointment - silence, - no calls or emails. I've started calling them using all phones listed in their automatic emails, - no answer, voicemail only. After about 10 voicemails 7 days later someone called me (I believe her name is Danielle) back with the generic answer saying everyone is busy, but a person who is responsible for my taxes will give me a call asap. Another 14 days passed nobody is called, so I've started calling again (they never reply on emails). The same lady called me and said the same thing, but I've told her that my virtual appointment was in the middle of March already, how come you guy's don't track your appointments?! She checked my name and saw that everything is correct - the documents were uploaded and appalment passed already, she was surprised and promised to take care of it asap and someone will be calling me very soon. What do you think? Today is 4/18 and no one is called. Left them a few messages a week ago, and on the weekend. How does this organization still exists with the distasting...

I went to an even here called Loc Fest 2024. This was their 3rd yr and my 1st time attending. The event had a history of rain fall so they changed the venue to Restoration Plaza however it rained again.... This time they had a pavilion to shelter the patrons from the rain storm that lasted for about 30 mins. To my suprise there weren't that many ppl here as I had anticipated being that this event was held in Bklyn. The "entertainment" was lackluster and the food was OK. The vendors were all selling the same variation of products like hair care oils, body butters, jewelry, clothes, and trinkets of some sort. The hair show competition was wonderful to see all kinds of creativity, the DJ was awesome but as for the musical artists, well let's just say it felt like "Showtime at the Apollo"! There were 2-3 photo opp stations to capture the moment and a person going around interviewing the patrons about their hair locking journey (I am one of those patrons interviewed)... Needless to say, it was an experience but I will not be back next year if they have it. Maybe it needs more exposure to grow and Im willing to...

This is one of the oldest locations in the Bedstuy area. It underwent renovations several years ago, but could use another reno inside the building. Space is available to rent inside the building and an outdoor space has been used for small events; The College of New Rochelle held a small special ceremony for some of it's students. And the outdoor area is covered. This venue often has plays. I attended a play called Dot, about an elderly woman in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease and how she and her family deal with her rapid change in behavior. The theater itself is small, about the size of a movie theater. Applebee's is next door, McDonald's is nearby and there are many independently owned places to eat. The area has a supermarket a few feet from Restoration Plaza and lots of places to shop. I couldn't give 4 stars because the bathrooms located on the first & second floor need work. Neither is handicap accessible.

Restoration is a community gem. There has been so many times my family has had celebratory events here. This organization is always offering community events and fostering positivity. I am so happy to see it still around and thriving. After attending a retirement party in the event space, I was thrilled to be able to see the Notorious BIG exhibit. It was so cool! That huge statue plays his music! I had no idea! If I were wealthy, I'd get it! As a Brooklyn native, I was stoked! If you haven't yet checked this place out for an event, you should!
