Great golf course. Convenient, 15 minutes away from my medical office. Was happy to find their hours of operations was 8am-9pm. I called and confirmed they were open on this slightly drizzly day. Was told $20 to play the first 18 holes and an additional $10 to repeat the course. I was greeted at the course by a lovely attendant who stated there was only 1 other golfer on the course. Since we were both beginners, this was a great opportunity for a relaxed and unhurried round. Unfortunately, that’s when the fun ended. The attendant visited us 3 times while we were on the course and asked us to “hurry up” and play as if someone was behind us, but there was no one behind us. Then she appeared with a gentleman named “Juan” who came up to us on his cart and was cursing repeatedly and shouting at us saying we are playing too slow and told us the course is closed and he is waiting for us to leave. However, it was clear on the park sign as well as their automated answering machine, the golf course closed at 9pm, no mention of a time limit per player and we were looking forward to paying another $10 to play another round. We expect to be treated nicely while on the course. The cursing was unnecessary and if they have specific rules they need to be posted and communicated before we...
Read moreThe Flushing Meadows mini golf course is a true diamond in the rough. My wife and I discovered this as we were trying to figure out birthday party plans for my son. We went in the beginning of June and took our time going over the course. We finished in about an hour and a half (2 adults, 2 kids), and had a blast. We returned at the end of June, staked out some picnic tables and setup a birthday party serving about a dozen children, halfway through the course we stopped keeping score, but the kids loved the challenge and the environment. Keep in mind that this is a Parks Department facility, so you won't see Spongebob-pineapple-houses anywhere, just simple putting greens. No frills or amusement-park style attractions. It's a very spartan, basic course, but it's still challenging enough to be fun. The staff are very helpful and informed and the facilities got a makeover just this year (around May 2012). The snack bar is fairly extensive and the bathrooms are immaculate!
All in all this is a place we will return to regularly. The best part is: no one knows about it! There's never any lines, or crowds of rowdy, screaming children running amok. It's serene...
Read moreI've been going to this golf course since I was a child. It is an absolute gem of a spot in NYC for golf; was never the best of conditions but still playable.
Over the recent years the green conditions have actually gotten really good but this past year I don't know what happened if they changed greenskeeper or management, but the course has become absolutely unplayable.
The greens have dirt patches all over the greens which is absolutely unacceptable. It used to be only on the edges which was fine but now it is all over the greens next to the holes and it doesn't make for a fun experience when every putt is through the Sahara desert.
This is really saddening because I used to come weekly especially last year when it seemed that they figured out how to keep the greens running honestly pretty fast and it was a great place to practice my short game and helped me get my handicap down to the single digits.
Now with these conditions I will not be coming back here until there is grass on the greens. Im not even asking for greens in conditions I just want to putt on grass.
To the greenskeepers do your job or get someone else to do better cause y'all...
