I booked two rooms. On these occasions, it was the 6th and 7th floors. I stayed in one and my family stayed in another. My family found pubic hair shavings in the shower. Dirty walls with plenty of hand prints and smudges. Theres a high pitch sound that comes on and off randomly in the room and I cant pinpoint where the sound is coming from but it sounds like its from the ceiling between the bathroom and vent. Its enough to get irritated. One of the curtains was out of place and couldnt cover the rest of the window. So I had to pull the other side as far as I could to make up for it. The pull out drawer inside the bathroom that has extra toothbrushes are stained with previous customers toothpaste spit. They definitely use different faucets for each room (my familys room had a better faucet away from the walls of the sink) as mine was so close to the sink part where it drains that when I washed my hands, I would slightly touch it which to me is gross. This led to water constantly being splashed into the counter near the mirror behind the faucet which would in turn get my things wet. The disposable extra cups in the bathrooms are not individually wrapped and would deter me from using them at all because I dont know how long its been there. Imagine poop particles getting on it because it right above the toilet. The toilet seat kept moving. So if I slightly adjusted myself, the seat would move and overlap the toilet bowl itself. The shower head probably had like 15 holes (sparse) in it which made them go in different directions and wasnt a satisfying feeling. A hose with a sprayer in "shower" setting would have been better. There was a red stain on the towel before I got a chance to use it. I found that all their lamps above the beds were unplugged when I got there. I had to figure out which lights connected to which switch. There are dents in the walls. The hotel (especially the elevators and throughout the hallways) smells like cigarette smoke and leaks into your room. The walls are thin and I can hear the next rooms conversation while they were on the phone clearly with no muffling. So imagine trying to stay quiet or sleeping while you hear a womans cellphone conversation nextdoor. You can hear someone using their code to go into their room (its loud) every time. Not much sense of privacy. The doors dont tightly close. Regardless of a code operated lock, you have to pull/push on your door to hear that click to make sure your room is actually closed. There were times where just letting it close on its own didnt work and I've noticed just pushing the door without the handle would open it. So no much security other than additional door lock above. There is no mini fridge so plan meals for no leftovers. Complimentary water bottles in the room though.
I paid 200 not including tax for 5 nights. The rooms are small but has everything you need. Only ideal for those who will pass out immediately before hearing all the noise of foot traffic and door/elevator noises. Its definitely an eat and shop location but not a "luxury" hotel. The cleanliness and maintenance is what Im referring to. Parking is in the garage thats down the block. $24 a day. So spending an additional 120 for 5 nights is what you should expect. Then again, its NY. You will need to plan according to when you need to take your car out if you traveled by car. Its not like things are old. It may look fancy but its dirty and not kept clean to match the aesthetic. Perhaps cleaning staff isnt as attentive and sharp eyed nor is property management for these things. Its not the worst I've seen. Its manageable.
The pros I have about this place is the accessibility of shopping places literally next to the hotel and around (walkable of course). Its the only reason why Id give the location 5 stars but rooms at 2 stars. If not for the shopping, restaurants, and familiarity, Id stay elsewhere if you want quality in your hotel. Its kind of like, you'd have to deal with it if you want the rest of the perks which would make it worth it if you know your way...
Read moreI stayed here yesterday and it was honestly a decent room/stay that would've deserved a 5 star rating, but I had a poor interaction with the front desk lady, that ruined things for me a bit.
When we first got to our room, the toilet paper was already more than half way done (it was used; not a new roll) - I didn't mind because I can just ask the front desk for more.. At the end of our night, we remembered to ask for two rolls. She asked us how many days we were staying and I said just for one night, and she responded with, "we only allow one roll per day." I was dumbfounded by her response so I just said "oh okay, thank you" and walked away, but I thought this policy was just crazy.
I didn't think such a brand new and nice looking hotel would be so stingy with their toilet paper and cause this type of inconvenience or humiliation for their customers ;-;
Anyways, I honestly would've probably rated 5 stars if I didn't experience this kind of service, but while I'm here I'll also bring up other minor nuisances that we noticed but really didn't ruin our stay.
They use keypads on room doors instead of key cards, and anyone can come into the building (I know hotels usually lock the front doors after a certain time at night and guests will have to use their own key cards to enter into the building/hotel) so there wasn't any sense of security at Starlight Hotel. On top of that, we ordered food around 12am and went downstairs to the lobby to get it, but we noticed that no one was at the front desk - there was a lengthy sign that said they'll be back but this was a little alarming because of the already poor security in my opinion.
Again, this is really minor but the showerhead had really low water pressure and the towels strangely smelled and tasted like the ocean/salt...? Oh, and we could also slightly hear conversations or the TV playing from other rooms while we were in our own room, but it wasn't overly loud where it bothered us.
Anyways, there were free amenities in our cozy little room. There's free wifi and a tv in the room with Hulu, Netflix, etc. I really liked the location of this hotel because it's super close to main street and also across the street from...
Read moreBooked the Deluxe Suite, paying $311-ish each night excluding taxes for a total of 3 nights. Loved the size of the rooms and various appliances, but I found trash left by the previous guest. I did not think too much of it, since I liked everything else about the room. The first MISTAKE that I made during my stay: having uncleaned trash bins is a big RED FLAG for cleanliness. Then the NIGHTMARE happened. I started to have serious allergy reactions on my cheeks, forehead, and parts of my neck after the first night. You would expect paying $300 per night at a hotel would give you guaranteed cleanliness but NO!! I reported my situation to the front desk, and the front desk lady tried to stop me from checking out earlier by saying that they can only refund to a certain limit and then promising to change the comforter and pillows which they did. I was fooled by their attempts to rectify and decided to give them a second chance which I REGRET. My allergies worsened on the second night and l also lost the opportunity to get refunds on two nights of stay. I will check out tomorrow and get a PARTIAL refund for the third night as because they claim that Expedia charged a share of the fees which they cannot refund. I got allergies from merely staying at Starlight Hotel which I paid for and they did not even try to refund me the full amount for the third night. Considering now I have to change my plan and pay extra for medicines, covering the difference between what the platform charged and what they charged is the least they can do. And it's just $10! Considering that the hotel has only opened since Dec 2023 and they are already treating their guests as trash is unbelievable. Will AVOID at all times.
RED FLAGs : 1. Found trash left by the previous guest; 2. Pillows that cause guests to have allergies; 3. Huge noise since the hotel is not far from an airport.
Conclusion:...
