Ivy League Stationers — Local services in New York

I love this place - I get all my printing done here, buy all my ink, art supplies, art paper, stationery, and shipping supplies here, and I allow in my budget for one impulse purchase from the variety of random gadgets and knick-knacks that don’t exactly classify for other stores. I make a point of going here instead of to mega-chain stores that might be closer or a few cents cheaper because I save hours of time and frustration searching for things in a mega-store and trying to find out info from clerks - if I can even find one - who can’t possibly know much about the million items they have to keep track of. Also, because Ivy doesn’t have an ever-rotating and massive staff, I can actually have continuity from one visit to the next, and am not always starting from scratch about what kind of things I’m looking for or need help with, which is a huge time and energy saver. The Ivy staff are super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, and often have suggestions that take me in directions I never would have thought of - I.e. even if they do not have a particular item, I will probably end up with 10 new priceless (to me) ideas that only come from working with people who know their stuff + serendipity + time. I can’t recommend Ivy League Stationers enough. They executed a very complex and highly customized wedding print job for me, and the end result was flawless. From the start, the team was meticulous, responsive, and thoughtful -- and their work exceeded my expectations!!!

Sean was the absolute standout.

He brought a level of care, pride, and professionalism that you don’t see often... he took the time to really understand what I needed, helped troubleshoot several design and formatting challenges, and never once treated any request like a hassle.

His problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and calm, focused approach made what could have been a stressful process feel manageable and even enjoyable. People like Sean are rare!!! He's very skilled/organized/creative/attentive, but more importantly, he's CLEARLY invested in doing amazing work and takes pride in getting things right!!!

TLDR inventory good, inconsistent work, shockingly rude manager

Fine store, has most of the stationery and office supplies you might typically need. I'm writing primarily about the staff services (photos, printing, etc.). I had occasion for a complex printing job (200 pages in an unconventional format) five times over several months. Of the five times, twice the staff made an error leading to the work doubling in time from ~30m - 1h. (it was never less than 30m.) One time, the manager was the one attending to me, and when the print job came out poorly, he said, and I quote, "you gave it to me that way." There was no "that's odd," no "Sorry about that, let's see why that happened:" he IMMEDIATELY assumed it was my fault and did not, in his reply, seem to contemplate the possibility it could be otherwise. If he were right, it would be rude; given that he was wrong, (and yes it resulted in a wait of 30m doubling to 1h), I will not be...
