J1 Hair Salon — Local services in New York

My wife needed to get her hair cut and we found this place in our neighborhood. We read the reviews and decided to go in. We went for the first time last year before the pandemic appeared. I was surprised to see that perhaps 90% of the staff were men at the salon, but I was more surprised to see their skills and how good the job looked on the girls getting their hair done. as we waited for her turn, a guy washed her hair and then another guy named Anson prepared to cut it. My wife speaks little english so I tried to relate what she wanted, and Anson took his time to look up pictures on google to see how she wanted it. When she was done i was amazed at how good it looked. We recently went for another hair cut, and all the staff and customers had masks on. We booked again with Anson and she was very happy with her hair cut. I highly recommend this place. If you live in Sunset Park and are tired of other hair salons, look no further....

i got a wash & cut for $40. the washing was mediocre, and i felt that water might have even gotten in my ear, but it wasn't a big deal. the man that cut my hair understood what i wanted after i showed him some reference photos. i wasn't expecting much, but he seemed skilled and he was able to replicate the photos i showed almost exactly. (i wanted a short to medium length cut with wolfcut-like layers and wispy bangs.) although, after the haircut was finished, he quickly moved on and i had a lot of small pieces of hair left in my hair and on my face (hence only 4 stars). i'm not sure if anyone else at the place is good, but the barber i had wore a cap and has tattoos on his arms; i would recommend him because he knows...

Wish I could give zero stars. I went in with natural, shoulder length, wavy, dark brown hair. One of the stylists assured me that he could get me to rose gold, and that he would use olaplex to avoid damage. YEAH RIGHT. I walked out with ORANGE, PATCHY, UNEVENLY BLEACHED, FRIED hair, which I was charged $290 for. When I asked why the hair was so broken, he told me it was because my natural hair is curly, WHICH IT IS NOT!!!

Two days later, I washed it & my hair was falling out in clumps. Making an appointment to shave my head tomorrow because my hair is damaged beyond repair, it literally breaks every time I touch it. Wish I could sue this place for emotional distress, I don’t even want to go outside. DO NOT GO...
