We moved here from Stuyvesant Town two years ago this month, and we are so happy we did. And we liked Stuy Town! But the rent there kept going up. Turns out, our mortgage and maintenance payment together here at Park Terrace Gardens (PTG) is less than our rent was at Stuy Town.
We are lucky that finances prompted us to look elsewhere, because otherwise, we would not have discovered Inwood and PTG.
Inwood is a lovely neighborhood. I'm still surprised at how many people, even Manhattanites, are not familiar with it. (Everyone seems to know about Washington Heights, but not about Inwood, for some reason.)
PTG is a wonderful part of Inwood. It's up on a hill, across the street from one park (Isham), and two blocks from another (Inwood Hill). The Cloisters and Fort Tryon Park are also up here. It's like the country in the city.
Yet, it is so easy to get to the rest of Manhattan from PTG. The first stop on the A train is a five-minute walk down a hill that winds through Isham Park. If you want to stay in the neighborhood, though, you're all set too -- for example, there are some really nice restaurants. (Be sure to try Indian Road Cafe, my favorite.)
PTG itself is lovely. The apartments are big, with great layouts. Internet, which is currently being upgraded, is included. It is pet-friendly. Our neighbors are great.
Again, so glad we...
Read moreWe've happily lived in (and been shareholders in) Park Terrace Gardens for over 30 years. Both of our children grew up here. It has been a great place to live --- and it is the only way we could have afforded to raise a family in Manhattan. Our PTG apartment has very solid pre-war construction, a lovely courtyard garden, well-maintained grounds and a friendly, village-like atmosphere. Noise has rarely been a problem. The 1 train is down some stairs and across Broadway. The A is a five-block walk away (through a nice little park, if you like). We are three blocks from the last virgin forest in Manhattan, where hawks and owls can be sighted and where a salt marsh plays host to ducks, geese, swans and egrets. Great apartment, great complex, great...
Read moreSo pleased to have moved uptown to Park Terrace Gardens over a year ago. We love the quiet, the gardens and the surrounding parks. A nice place to live, with a vibrant, diverse community. The Board, with the support of the community, is moving in a very positive direction in upgrading the infrastructure and delayed maintenance of past times, which will only inure to the benefit of the owners of the...
