I suppose you’re supposed to order the specialty of the house, but I didn’t. I ordered a beef marrow bone soup called Bulalo. I was very disappointed, but I’m sure they can do it better, and that other items are very good. Here is a description from Wikipedia.
Bulalô (Tagalog: [bʊlɐˈlɔʔ]) is a beef dish from the Philippines. It is a light colored soup that is made by cooking beef shanks and bone marrow until the collagen and fat has been melted into the clear broth. It typically includes leafy vegetables (like pechay or cabbage), corn on the cob, scallions, onions, garlic, ginger, and fish sauce. Potatoes, carrots, or taro can also be added. It is commonly eaten on rice with soy sauce and calamansi on the side. Bulalo is native to the Southern Luzon region of the Philippines, particularly in the provinces of Batangas and Cavite.
It was very bland. There is no hint of scallion, garlic, ginger, or manis. I had to ask for salt and soy sauce. Also, there was a whole lot of inedible fat. Just globs of fat. When I’m paying $22 for a dish, I don’t want to pay for fat. For that money, all I got was maybe 5 ounces of beef. I spoke respectfully to the chef and suggested that before serving, to trim the fat and add some thinly sliced fresh ginger and scallions. there was no fish sauce, so I would have suggested that, as well. It was really surprising to have a bland dish at a Filipino restaurant. I know they can do better. He and the waitress listened to...
Read moreMy mother-in-law and nephew got me a gift card from here for my birthday because they know how much I love eating here! I always order takeout and never had the chance to dine in the restaurant. My family and I finally went out on a late Wednesday afternoon and we were warmly welcomed by Rachel. As we sat down, we immediately ordered the Appetizer sampler that had a little but of every appetizer on the menu. The lumpia was fresh, chicken fritters were tasty and the chicharron was very meaty. Shortly after, we ordered our entrees. We initially wanted the Barkada box which we thought was a great deal for sharing. But we opted to order several entrees and shared everything family style. Up next was the chicken adobo, Lechon, Pancit Bam-i, and. Bangus (milkfish). When I tell you, EVERYTHING TOUCHED MY SOUL!!! You can tell that every dish was put together with love. From the taste to the presentation, it was amazing. To end our visit, we couldn’t leave without the star of the show, the Halo Halo. This dessert always takes be back home to the Philippines. Rachel took some time to chat with us and share each other’s backgrounds. It’s amazing how Filipino food is impacting the food scene and we will continue to support Patok by Rach as the food is great and perfect portion and value for the money. If you haven’t tried Filipino food yet, this place is a great way to...

The variety of dishes included in the box, like the perfectly crispy pork lumpia and the succulent lechon belly, offered a delicious mix of textures and flavors. The presentation, with everything laid out on banana leaves, really made the experience feel special. Eating with your hands in traditional Kamayan style only added to the fun! Each bite was packed with bold, savory flavors, and the portion size was generous enough for sharing.
