I just had an awful experience here this past Tuesday night (5/25). I have lived in this neighborhood (3 blocks down) for 6 years now and have been coming to this place for the same amount of time. Now this laundromat is not perfect (there are areas to be improved upon), but the convenience is the later hours (especially for people that work late). I came in a 8:30PM to wash my clothes. I had to go back to my residence to get the rest of my clothes because I could not bring them all in one trip. When I got back, the "female laundromat attendant" on staff immediately came to confront me about the time. She stated that the place closes at 10PM and that the last wash is at 8:30PM. I expressed surprise at this because for the longest time, the last wash was at 10:00PM, all of a sudden the hours have changed? Also, the change in time was not easily apparent on the front glass. I told her that I did not know this and then asked her, if I could leave my last load (that I had to go back home to get) for an attendant to do as a "drop-off" and I could pick it up tomorrow, etc. I was perfectly willing to pay. She was so busy being rude and antagonistic, telling me "That's not my problem" and that 10:00 this, 10:00 that, etc.----I suppose she wasn't really listening to me. So, rather than continue corresponding with her, I proceeded to wash my clothes and moved on to dry. By then, the time had wound down to 9:30PM. I worked as fast as I could to get my clothes in the dryers. I got them all in to dry while she proceeded with the cleaning. She finished up the cleaning, turned off the TV and the lights and proceeded to stand behind me and "watch" me and my clothes, by then the last customer had completed her folding and left. The time was now 10:10PM and I had 7 and 8 minutes left on my dryers, so I started to pull out my clothes and pack them, whether they were all the way dry or not. This attendant made sure to antagonize me, shouting "will you hurry up and get out of here,"---"the place is closed, you have to leave now" etc. I continued to remain silent, because if I responded to her, it would have been a negative emotional response and then things would have escalated (she probably would have called police on me then). I finally finished (the time was 10:20PM) and I managed to pull both of my loads of laundry to my house. I had to maneuver 2 shopping carts down the street (I obviously could not make 2 trips as I was being literally thrown out)...luckily another pedestrian gave me an assist the 3 blocks home.
I actually have seen this "attendant" interact with other customers who have run a bit over the time who were white, and she seems very pleasant with them. I wonder if my skin color (I am black) had something to do with how rude and confrontational she was towards me. I don't believe that running a bit over the closing time while drying clothes gives an owner or business attendant in a laundromat grounds for being awfully rude, disrespectful, antagonistic and confrontational to a customer. I have never seen a "last" customer in a laundromat be treated like that. As I stayed to patron this business with my money, I should have had the right to complete my job, I was not staying to fold due to the time constraint. I feel that I did not deserve to be treated that way by her and because of this experience, unfortunately I will never return here. I am REALLY glad that there are other laundromats (I hear there is one opening on Macombs Pl soon AND I was just told that there is one on W 153rd called "Uptown Shine") that will provide other...
Read moreThe newer management is better, however last night they closed at midnight I left my things in there to dry around 930pm and came back at 1050pm and they were closed. I dont understand why they closed an hour earlier then advertised knowing someone was still drying their clothes. Despite that, they keep the place pretty clean, the bathroom stores alot of things so its ideal to use your own bathroom instead of theirs. Their drop off service takes up most of the dryers & washers in the front of the store which leaves the middle and back of the laundromat available for public use. The workers primarily speak Spanish, but run the store smoothly & assist with most things except if theres an issue with the card machine. Only one young lady that works in the morning really gets the jist of working it in the case the dryer takes more money than its supposed to etc. Much better than the old management for sure. It gets busy on weeknights and Sundays. They open 630 on Saturday mornings though which is great for early birds and they close at 11pm though the advertised sign...
Read moreIve been going to this laundromat for over 5 years. Mainly because it’s convenient and close to where I I live, but there’s been an added draw to the place and that’s because the ladies that work there, are always super friendly and helpful. Except tonight I just had a horrible experience and I hope the owners do something about it, before they loose a lot of money. The girl on duty tonight closed the laundromat earlier than usual. I checked online and I know the laundromat closes at midnight. And they do the last wash at about 10:30pm. There was a man whose name was Victor - they made me leave the laundromat before I could dry my clothes. Because they were closing the place. Google maps even says it closes at midnight. They are usually cleaning up and people drying and folding has never been an issue. Until this evening. I’m hugely disappointed. And it’s not ideal that I have a whole bag of wet clothes in the middle of winter because they decided to make up new rules and is drifting away from the customer service and reliability that this laundromat has...
