SBH Healthplex Fitness Center — Local services in New York

Not very flexible for a facility that doesn’t offer much. I get multiple emails a week that classes they advertise for are cancelled. They don’t allow guests…for 35 dollars a month I would have at least thought that would be offered. I went in to cancel and instead of just immediately canceling that month they bill you for the next month and then cancel…They have limited hours, and they don’t even have student discounts. I ended up signing up with xsport fitness.

As a community member who lives there. I was under the impression that they were primarily there for the benefit of residents they share the building with but I barely observe folks from the community there. Just the white folks who work at the hospital. So it makes sense they would be less flexible for the community. It would have been super convenient to have a gym directly around the corner from me but not interested in limited services from a health center who’s advertising that they are here for the community.

The funny thing is I have attempted to have my neighbors come with me so they can get an idea what the facility was like, but their rigid guest policy prevents community members from doing that organically. Same machines as the gyms, the classes only match with the employee hours 5-7am or 4-6pm. The staff is terrible they do nothing. The bathroom never has napkins. There's 1 bench in the locker and it always stinks. The yoga room is cute but again not clean. The boxing room (studio 2) only has 1 set of gloves so be ware. This gym has a shady cancellation policy. I was moving and cancelled my membership (which has to be done in-person of course). But I was still billed for the next month. When I contacted them about it, they said that when you cancel, it doesn't end your membership until the next month. So no matter when you submit the cancellation, you get billed for an additional month! I was told you I could cancel any time without penalty when I signed up....
