Father's Memorial Mass
I feel compelled to share the extremely hurtful and inappropriate treatment me and my 4year old son experienced at your church during the Mass held in memory of my fatherâs second death anniversaryâa Mass that we personally arranged and paid for.
During the service, my 4-year-old son, who is on the autism spectrum, expressed excitement when he saw a photo of his grandfather, saying âYay, Grandpa.â He was not crying, yelling, or disrupting the service in any inappropriate way. He was simply responding with joy to a moment that meant a great deal to our family.
Instead of receiving compassion or understanding, we were publicly shamed and asked to leave the church in front of the entire congregation. It was deeply humiliating and painfulâespecially on such a meaningful and emotional day.
This kind of behavior is not only unacceptable, it is precisely why many families feel alienated from the Church. Places of worship should be spaces of welcome, empathy, and inclusionânot judgment and exclusion, particularly toward young children or neurodivergent...
