Pioneer Supermarket of Arthur Avenue — Local services in New York

It's clean and well organized, although quite a few items were not clearly labeled for one to know the price. The prices of certain items seemed exorbitant. It was well staffed but many of the staff did not speak or understand English. The overall layout was utilized as expected considering the space as I frequently visited when it was a Rite Aid location, so each aisle is rather small and cramped, as anyone disabled using a quad cane or walker will have issues maneuvering around. Prices are way too high here. Where do you think you are? Downtown manhattan? I went in to buy a few things and left with 1 item. Everything i price checked was way over the usual. While paying i asked for the price of the Dubai chocolate bar which was at the register and he said $16.00 Are they freaking kidding me i buy the same one for $6.00 @ stop and shop. Occupying the old Rite Aid site, Pioneer is similar in size to the other two Belmont markets, C-Town & Modern. And like those two stores, it's gouging a working class Bronx neighborhood with ridiculous prices ($4 warm Gatorade, anyone?). It's probably cheaper (and certainly better) to go to the butchers, fruit vendors, fishmongers, etc. along Arthur Ave. But it's fine for what it is: a convenient, one stop supermarket. Cashiers were pleasant & those distinctive green bags...
